Sw20 mr2 bubbling

Postby BL8KK9T » Mon May 17, 2010 2:25 am

i have a Mr2 that overheated a few weeks ago, caused by a stuff thermostat which was replaced and solved the overheating issue.

Now the cooling system is bubbling and foaming none when i try to bleed the system... and uses about a cup of water every 1 or 2 days....

Done TK test OK
Done cooling system pressure check OK

many attempt to bleed the system. with the heater bleeder and radiator bleeder opened to bleed out the air.

car dont overheat anymore but i cant figure out why its bubbling

anyone got any ideas

Had a celica which was using water but couldn't find any leaks or head gaskit problems. Turned out it was a small leak from a hose. It would leak when hot but seal when not under pressure acting like a very small one way valve. I pressurised the whole thing with a tyre pump and let it sit for an hour to find it. Or it could be the shaft seal on the water pump on its way out
"You can't do it like that!." "Why not?"

Did you use an engine flush at all? They often get caught in the system and you end up with froth & bubbles for a long time afterwards.

A bottle of chemi weld will fix it for a short while.

when it first overheated i used a tube of one shots and tried to drive it home but it didnt work coz it was the thermostat that was faulty, but anyway i am more keen on find the actual caused of the problem than just patching it.

thank you all

There's only one place that bubbles are able to come from and that's a leak in the headgasket, which would have been the original problem, as always.
TK tests don't always work. They're just for the mechanic to bump up the price.
