Toyota in Motorsport

Members of Toyota's board will attend this weekend's World Touring Car Championship event at Monza to evaluate a future touring car programme.

I'm quit ehappy to hear that. I knew Toyota would not be away from Motorsport for long, although I did expect a sportscar programme, not a touring car one. But possibly the LF-A is destined for more racing?

would be a shame not to race it in everything they can after all the development that was put in - if you are making a loss on a car, you want to be flogging it to promote the brand i would of thought.

I would like to see them lighten and enhance the LFA for a full assault on trying to win an overall victory at the Nurburgring 24 hour I think thats a logical step for Toyota/Lexus.

They have achieved a victory in the SP8 class now i think they need to have a crack at Porsche for the overall title.

If its the WTCC they enter then won't it be more liekly to be one of the lesser toyotas?

IS-F?
FT-86?
Corolla?

Try and get that Homologated for the WTCC

As far as WTCC goes... I say go back to the likes of BTCC in the early to mid 90s!!!

Agreed. Standard bodies and minimal aero makes for exciting racing.

 Everything wasted the Commodores (the only oz V8's running in the ATCC alongside the r32s....) The Sierras put up a good fight though

The rules for the oz V8's are changing as of 2012 iirc.
I believe then the IS-F would be eligible
As will the Camry....
However I'm not so sure Lexus will be interested.

By 2013, as far as I am aware, the V8 super cars will run a controll chassis, trans and suspension. But engines will be limited to size etc

I'd like to see them homologate Super GT in Japan vs DTM in Germany now thats a series that would be worth watching.

Aussie V8's are a pretty good car and with the rules the way they are I think an IS-F Camry or an Aurion would be very well matched against there Holden and Ford counter-parts.

They were talking....
DTM + SuperGt + ALMS.
But I think it fell apart because the DTM is locked into it's current cars until a certain point, and the SuperGT had to change a year or two before then. Or something like that.
We can still hope though....
