AE101 duel exit pipes

Postby celica_xr9145 » Tue May 25, 2010 12:52 pm

Just out of interest, does anyone know if the duel exit exhaust pipes that you see on GT Apex Levin/Trueno AE101's fit SJ AE101's with the 4AFE?

Always thought the single pipe on my SJ Trueno looked pretty weak.

It has the notch in the bumper for it but i'm not sure if i would need an exhaust shop to create custom brackets for it.

Anyone know?

Edit: Also what is the advantage of running duel exit pipes?

They dont flow as well with the twin pipes, so it's pointless.

EDIT: what makes you think the twin pipes wouldn't flow as well?

are you looking at bolting on the whole thing or just the rear section?

as far as bolting on i know the headers finish in the exact same place on both 4afe and 20V so just need a flange for that.
i'm not sure about the rear mounts, but in worst case scenario just rape a wrecked GT of its rubber mounts. there has got to be a few of them lying round at wreckers!

I was thinking from the cat back. By the looks of it thats what i need from the looks of this

Worst comes to worst i imagine the exhaust shop could mount it on as long as i provide the rubber mounts.

Yes they fit straight on, My mate at his place last year on his SJ Trueno. Didn't need any modifications at all, fitted straight in after the cat. look a hell of a lot better than the stupid pea shooter. its good they put the thing notch in the back bumper.

You forgot the lighter wallet and the potential for more noise. That should cover all the "advantages" though  the reason the factory one looks weak, is because it is weak

You wanting it for looks, sound or performance?

Mainly for looks tbh. Don't want a ricey fart cannon on the back and don't want the noise of one either.

Also, what do you mean with 'potential for more noise?' I would thought that being a factory item that they would be quiet :?

Thanks for that, so do you know if there was already an exhaust mount on the other side?

By potential for more noise I mean the dual system (for a 4age) is probably bigger than your current pipe which may make it louder. Nothing to back that up though.

If its just the look perhaps just get a tip for your current muffler? I wouldn't consider any factory mufflers to be nice looking really  But hey, your money, so best of luck etc.

Ah i see what you mean now, probably would be a bit louder. Don't mind a bit of a growl but i can't imagine it being too loud.

I've looked for a tip but didn't have one that fit my exhaust without welding and didn't want no 4" chrome tip on the back, lol.

Only reason i ask is that there is one wrecking in Dunedin and always liked the look of GT Apex's with the 2 pipes.

Will see how much he is offering.

if it's anything like a AE101 sedan the 4afe and 4age exhausts use different size connecting bolts to each other and at the headers it won't line up.

4afe is 1.8inch 4age looks to be around 2.1/4

Aparantly there was I was with him in the morning and he had it on by the afternoon, just take all rubber hangers with the exhaust. also his one had the hangers under the car for it, but it was a facelift, so potential for a difference???
