i may seem a slack person at joining in on track day or meets etc , but thats only because i have crazy work hours and the rest of my is taken up with my 10 mth old +g/f.

I have put the toyspeed banner on my sprinter and was wondering if i should have waited till i actually did some kind of club type event, meet etc.

so do i remove that banner till ive turned up at one of the club events?

or is contact via internet etc ok for now till i can make an event or time limit ?.

i didnt put the banner on for the wrong reasons thats for sure.

what ever you guys think is fine with me.

cheers

Reuben

considering how little there is in terms of organised meets for TS these days, I really wouldn't be concerned if you haven't been to one. I think TS had its heyday of actual human contact back with the old forum and the early days of this one (back when we used IRC far too much). These days it really is primarily an online community and therefore it's hard to have any requirements for having a TS banner other than perhaps a period of longevity on the forums + not being a douchebag.

I'm in the same boat as GT101, I haven't managed to attend any meets with anyone, but I'm not a douche either, well hopefully!

I did get a banner during the first run, as I was going through that stage when you join a new club and its really cool etc. and probably shouldn't have put it on. I am kinda feeling bad about it now as I want to live up to expectations, and still haven't been on the forum long! But i haven't/will never do anything to put a bad light on this club and I am prepared to stick by the rules.

I dont expect people to have the banners and only turn up for meets etc. Posts on the forums etc will count for something. Malcom yea your right ... the old days meets were always full and i remember the Welly crew meeting up in numbers 20plus and going cruizing etc

Im glad people have the banner as its always good to see another toyota enthusiast around and GT101 dont remove your banner. . . .

maybe everyone just needs to move to palmy? we have decent number attending meets every week. doesn't seem that hard to put 1 1/2 hours aside every wed night to spend some time with like minded people.

Things were huge in wellington till around 2007 when it started dying off due to the lack of new members coming along and other priorities taking over for other regular members.

IMO if you dont get the new people coming along with their enthusiasim and fresh ideas and being accepted socially by the group as a whole to replace the ones who take a sabbatical, then numbers in attendance fall off quickly, and IRL things shrink and die.

There are other contributing factors, but thats the larger out of all of them

If turning up to regular meets was a requirement i'm not sure there would be much demand for them  . Being a contributing member (in a non-douche way) is a good requirement though. I mean if you don't actually take part on the board at least, why would you want a sticker anyway.

Not picking or anything... but why would you need one on a car that gets used 2 months of the year?

Back in the old days... like, when we started this whole Toyspeed thing, it went on pride. If you were proud enough to put a banner on your car and represent for the club that was enough. I think the same thing should be going on now. This making sure someone is 'good enough' is going to make too much work for people. What used to happen was this... If you were a forum member and had posted more than once in the last 6 months then you were 'worthy' to have one. Tooooo many rules around a banner look ready to jump up. :) Keep it simple people.

The main idea that Toyspeed was started up for was to share ideas, knowledge and get together for social events, which included track day megameet and general meets. I don't think that has changed even if attendances at general meets are low.

We have entertained formal memberships on three different occasions and the two reasons it never happened were these:

1. No one could really come up with a decent reason other than it would be good to make funds for the club. (that is what selling the merchandise is for)

2. It was decided that membership to an online forum that cost money was a little bit 'off' considering it was always meant to be a 'free' place for like minded people to come together not creating an elitists environment.

There were other things, like, if we start a club who will audit the accounts, will it need to be incorporated, if someone got upset about the use of the funds how were the accounts going to be made public. If they were made public how that information could be controlled. Just because NZH have done it doesn’t mean we need to follow like petulant children. :)

If you want to see funds go towards the club that will pay for the basic costs then buy the merchandise and if you are planning on selling TS merchandise/gear then ensure that any profits go to the club… ;)

See… it’s easy really :D
