(Non-Superstrut) Levin BZ-G Brakes

Hey guys,

It's coming up to university exams/holidays so I'm going to have time on my hands to work and get a bit of money together.

I'm looking at replacing my brake rotors and pads, as well as picking up some new brake hoses, but I know absolutely nothing about brakes. I've never driven on the track and am unlikely to do so in the near future, but I enjoy a bit of (sensible) spirited driving out of the city and so I'd like my car to be able to stop well. I don't know what pads are on there now, but they certainly don't feel like they stop as well as I'd like.

So... two questions basically. Am I going to be fine with genuine rotors or should I bother look into slotted? What pads should I be looking at for something that stops well, but isn't in the same sort of price range as race/semi-race pads?

Bonus question, would it be a problem to go with genuine pads on the rears, with decent pads on the front? Despite having a decent job for the holidays, I am still a university student

Standard rotors should be fine, just get better than standard pads. I've been told Bendix(sp) Ultimates are a good step up for what you're looking for.

Why you replacing the hoses, they stuffed?

Bonus answer: I don't see a problem running aftermarket pads on the front and standard on the rear. The rear does bugger all braking anyway, so whatever you put on the rear I doubt you'd notice a big difference. Front is where it matters.

Cheers, yeah I've been told there's not much benefit to be had from going to non-standard rotors. And yeah, brake lines are apparently starting to fall apart. Genuine hoses are cheap enough anyway. Cheers for the recommendation

ive always used EBC green stuff pads, and have just bought Redstuff pads and they're both great, but they arent the cheapest around.

the only other pads ive used in the last few years were cheap ones form repco which were shit...

I put a set of the bendix ultimates in my AE111 about a moth ago.. also put new TGP rotors at the same time. Stops real well...only vice is the bendix pads get a bit of squeal on untill they have little heat in them

Cheers mate, I'm sure I can live with a bit of noise. Probably early days yet, but you haven't noticed any unusual extra wear on your discs?

You could try the Lucas TRWs from Repco, they're a premium OE pad though people have had good track use out of them (myself included). Easy on discs and quiet but a little dustier than TGP.

Find someone with a trade card too...

Na.. not harsh wearing. Did a track day with them and they stopped just as well as the EBC green stuff ones I had prior.The EBC pads chewed through my rotors real quick thoe

Replace the fluid as well and give the whole system a good bleed. You'd be surprised how much of a difference new fluid makes.

Also use a decent fluid, the motul stuff isnt to badly priced
