Reinstalling 4WD Gearbox to 3SGTE

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Mon May 31, 2010 1:47 am

Having a nightmare trying to get my 4WD gearbox reconnected to my 3SGTE, can someone please shed some light on a way to do this, I've just been trying by myself and would imagine it would be somewhat less of a mission with 2 people. But yea is there a nac to it or do i just have to keep fiddling around with the bloody thing  till its goes on.

Any help and advice much appreciated

align up the clutch disc first before tighten the pressure plate?
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Let me guess: the transfer case is hitting the block in some way.
You will need to turn the gearbox along the crank axis ~15' clockwise, slide it in so it is touching the locating pins, and turn it back up.

It is very fiddly.

I hope you are not doing it in the car?

Last time I was doing it myself, and I had to put engine crack pulley down, so the engine was sitting vertical (make sure you have some wood blocks in strategic places) and place the box on top and fiddle with it for a while until it "fell" in place.

Good advice, thats how i did mine. Spent hours with it on the ground, stood it up and had it on in 5 mins.

Yeah, I forgot to add that obviously gearbox and engine must be dry, unless you want the oil everywhere.

Just got to hold it in the right position. I do them while hanging on the crane, tilt gearbox 15' anti clockwise and lower the back end another 15' then aim the input shaft at the clutch and lift and twist

Makes it sound so easy like that but yes it is a bitch the first few times, you will get there :)

given up for now, too cold. Will resume later and try and get it on completely and bolted up and ill be :D

make sure you don't force bolt it. As it might bend the clutch disk.

So when do you plan on having it running again?

HHmmm that's not a bad idea. might try that next time i do a rav box. We had one in the other week and i split the transfer from the box, removed power steer pump, slid tranfer back, removed box. I suspect the shaft that drives the transfer can be removed with a slide hammer if i did it this way next time. I just found it easier but then again we did have a hoist and stuff. Lots of good times there

You don't just get 2 bolts started and rattle them up???
Clearly there are ways you could be saving time Sergei :P
