The problem with the .5mm is that it still stops their rod/peice of wood whatever they put under there to measure it, so they instantly fail it.

Damned annoying! any normal garage would most likeley see that it is so negligable that it doesnt matter, but nooooo they cant do that!

However i guess the rules are there for a reason, and i might as well follow them

a few bags of concrete in the back will do the trick if you have heaps of clearance on the back lol

vtnz tryed to fale my mate for being too low because the exaust is low, my mate had to argue with them because they didn't want to admit they were wrong.. another mate had a car they could only get a warrent on new tyers because it was just on the limit.. you can always try to take it back, they might be nice and let it pass or if you park in the wright spot there might be a dip if your lucky..
you could also try emptying windscreen washer bottle and radiator overflow, if its thay close. :wink:

get technical...

F = kx

Find k (spring constant) for your springs

F = m x g

m = 0.0005 x k / 9.81

= how much weight you need to lose up front

Front springs are in parallel so you need to take that into account...can't remember if k(total) = k(1) +k(2) for parallel, or 1/k(total) = 1/k(1) + 1/k(2)

...put it in the too hard basket and just pump up the tyres.

SCIENCE

Put the said 4x2 in the boot, it might help raise it that .5, or if all else fails it could be used for encouragement? :P

Take the springs out and put some garden hose over both ends, that might net you 5mm for 5 minutes anyway so be quick before its squashed :lol:

Matt black the hose as its no good if you can easily see the green cross hatch pattern :wink:

Or get spacers from the likes of Autolign.

Mate that has my old EX lancer had to do this as he got picked up on the rear springs (which had been compressed) at WOF were no longer captive with the car jacked up.

Hate to be a wet blanket but how about people follow the rules and dont go lower than what the law allows ? although .5mm does sound a bit picky, then again a line has to be drawn.

Pumping the tyres upto max should get .5mm easy. Mabey run the fuel tank closer to empty as well, 45+ kg of fuel would make the car drop .5mm depending on tank location.

I have just taken it back in. I easily had over 100mm of clearance under the cross-member, which is the only point that was under. Now im being told it has to be with 4 people in the car. this is absolute crap, no warrent i have ever had before in my entire life has been like that.

I Think i will just go somewhere else, its not worth the effort of trying to argue with them. I took out my 100mm peice of wood, with a set of verniers to prove it was accurate, showed him that it fitted, which is when he decided there had to be four people in the car.

They didnt even bother to measure it for the re check!

I think it's safe to say that a crazed shooting rampage at VTNZ would be a perfectly acceptable response to this.

The re-inspector was an indian guy that works there.

This whole process is an absolute joke.

Does anyone know a good garage in dunedin to take my car to? i dont care about the extra $50 it will cost me, i just dont think i should have to put up with VTNZ's crap.

Yeah, that guy is a tard. I would ask to see in the VIRM where it states it has to be with four people.

I used Anzac motors for a wof the other day, seem pretty fair. Failed on front pads was about it.
