Yep id be complaining for a sure, get it WOFd at another location and then send a request for refund under Consumer Gaurantee Act.

Sounds like hes making up the rules as he goes.

Pretty sure a 7 seater van doesnt require you bring 7 people to prove the ride height when full.

This is all it says in the VIRM

a minimum of 100 mm ground clearance exists below any part of the vehicle structure, or any steering, braking or suspension component

Demand to speak to the manager, and demand they produce the law where it states its 100mm with 4 people in the car.

Also ring LTSA or whatever there name is now, and report them. I know awhile a go when some dodgy place was trying to get some work out of my sister tried it on with the ol you need x done, LTSA told them in no uncertain terms that they would be watched from now on and any other complaint and they'd have their ability to do WOF's removed.

VTNZ should be better than the average garage.

Agree that those guys are c**ts. They can't even measure tread depth properly.

It won't be an argument, you print out the part of the VIRM, take it back and asked what you failed on. Don't need to get agro abou tit.

I will consider it. They also failed my heqadlights, I had aligned them today at course, they were fine, then i took them to VTNZ and all he told me was "There is something funny with your headlights"

They were both aligned correctly, and both the intensitys were the same. that is all that is required for a Wof i think?

I've had bullshit fails before so I just sat there and said i'll wait in the lane until they either pass the car (I had the print out to say it was fine) or they prove to me its failable. Ticket was on my sisters car 1 minute later. Sorted.

If you really can't be bothered dealing with them, ask for a refund from the manager as they have not provided the service advertised so you're not leaving without a WOF or a full refund as your car has been independently tested to meet the requirements.

I think im just going to to go elsewhere and get a warrent. i will get my money back from VTNZ eventually, im just in a rush for the warrent so i think that will be the easiest way.

I guess i have learned to avoid them. I guess they would be fine with a un-modifeid car, but anything else is going to be failed.

Oh, and i just rang them. i asked how they check the heights. they aparrantly use a tape measure while in the pit! that isnt accurate at all as far as i am concerned.

You should throw tantrum, otherwise these muppets will do it again.
There is being pedantic and there is being a lying prick. In this case it is later.

You should put a hard stance, as they have no authority to make up the rules. If they don't want to give you WOF for whatever reason other than genuine issue, they should give you full refund.

Nope, go in there and talk to the manager, no-one else. Take in copies of the VIRM and ask specifically which part relates to the fails on your vehicle.

Dont take it lying down, they'll shaft other people too if they think they can get away with it

Take the page in, if they're still being stupid about it then complain. If you want a fair warrant then flick me a message and I'll do one myself

I might be interested on that offer lloyd, however first i will talk to my grandfather tonight. he did a short stint working for VTNZ at the test centre i went to today, until he got sick of one of his workmates, im not sure who. I will see what he thinks my chances are, and may even get him to come with me.

As for the VIRM pages, is there any other relevant peices of information i could print off and take in with me?

yeah man, get your wof, then talk to the manager and get your money back OR you will phone the local papers with your complaints.

Imagine the look on his face when he reads the headline

Its the ODT so the headline will be "VTNZ keeps our roads safe from Boy Racers" - so not probably a good idea.

Demand a WOF with the proof, and then complain loudly to LTSA, and mention to the manager & tester that that's exactly what your going to do.

The pages you'll want are in this PDF, specifically 9-1-5 referring to springs and shockies
http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/virm- ... eering.pdf

As for the headlights, they're supposed to throw a set pattern. Give them a quick polish with any sort of cutting compound if they're starting to look a little cloudy and take it back. If they say its failed, ask why. They either don't throw the correct pattern on the board, or they aren't aligned properly. Polish usually fixes pattern (unless bulb is put in wrong) or a quick adjustment will fix alignment issues. In either case, its usually pretty easy to fix on the spot and most garages would just do it.

Those are the pages i was looking at before. Thanks a heap for the info about the Headlights. they were dfeinitly aligned properly as i did it today at course and Mike Perkins signed me off on it, and he wont sign me off unless its correct haha. Maybe they had an issue with the pattern or something?

Generally if it doesn't meet the pattern requirements then you cant align them because you cant see the cutoff of the light on the board. Mike knows his stuff, go in and ask for someone else to do the recheck
