Garrett turbo

Postby Trls250s » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:35 pm

Looking to upgrade the turbo on my ST165 - been repowered with a ST205 motor been rebuilt with forged internals. Aaron from ATS racing suggested the best fit was a GT3071 T3 flange and internal waste gate was all I was going to be able to fit under the bonnet and clear the radiator.
So what do you think is it a good turbo and do import it or is there a decent supplier in NZ.

Yep, would be a great turbo for a 3S, particularly with the smaller exhaust housing. There are plenty of agents for Garrett turbos in NZ, you probably wont save too much directly importing one.

the 3071R has replaced the TD06SH in terms of both power and spool.

GT28RS good for 300hp
then it used to be TD06 for over 400hp, but now GT3071R
then it's GT3076R

The ONLY Garrett Distubutor in New Zealand.

GT3071R .63 internal wastegate, i'll have a look tomorrow and see what we can do.

I know we have the GT3071R with an external wastegate 4 bolt outlet in stock.

From Scott at ATS racing (prices in US$)

Since I last e-mailed you we have stumbled on a neat option that will fit the ST205, and will clear the hood of a st165. The ATS GT3071WG kit. I just shipped one to Australia, and we installed one here. It made about 275 to all 4 wheels at 13 psi to the car here…

The 3071WG (internal wastegate like the gt28rs) is $2000, and shipping will be about $185.

Do the T25 flanged internal gated flow anywhere near like the T3 external gated versions? I was under the impression that the T25 housing is too small, or is it different?

Unortunaly the only larger frame GTxxxR wastegated turbo we have dealt with is the BA/BF & FG XR6-T turbos.

Most of the people that run a GT3071R/76R/82R / GT3582R go external wastegate.

i beleve the T3 flange wastegated housings will flow better than the T25 flanged housing would do.

I was under the impression that if you get a GT3071R with the T25 internal gated housing, it'll become a GT2871R, which I had before, not really a performer.

Or have I missed something here? GT3071R with the T25 housing, has a different housing to the GT2871R?

It does get confusing at times

I am running an internally gated GT3076R, it was supplied with a "12-14psi" internal wastegate actuator which was too soft and would open a little prematurely then creep to full boost but you can also get a .9-1.2bar "big can" actuator (which I am now running) which works much better. I don't have any creep issues and it spools pretty solidly.

I bought the parts from ATPTurbo, they were great to deal with :)

Difference between the 28071r & 3071R is the hot side has additional machining to accept a 30 series turbine.
