Evo fuel pump swap in

Postby gleem » Tue Jun 08, 2010 9:30 pm

Putting an evo 8 fuel pump in my rb20det. Got one then looked up on line and saw this

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/evo/ ... mpinfo.htm

"The EVO 8 uses a dual voltage fuel pump. As we found out a long time ago, if you increase the voltage to the fuel pump with better and more direct wiring, it will flow more"

"When demand is low, they run the fuel pump voltage through a resistor. When fuel demand is higher, the ECU triggers a relay to run voltage straight to the pump instead of through the relay"

Im not sure about my cefiro but i doubt it has anything fancy like that.

So my question is will this be fine to use withought the resistors, relays etc or will it run lean? as the pump must be designed around the evo 8 wiring systems?

yes it'll be fine. The same thing is done in many cars, e.g. ST185s, SW20 turbos

Could wire in a variable resiostor, then you could control the fuel rate?

The reason that two speed fuel pumps are used in factory,

is to reduce noise while idleing.

how about the "longer life of pump" is that true?

i wouldn't have really thought that was the case,

But interestingly enough it is mentioned that it reduces emissions in the fuel tank,
by causing less fuel vapours as there is less fuel returning to the tank.

Rumour has it that it increases pump life.

Just run it straight, if the pump is half decent it shall outlast a cefiro anyway :)
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

i believe variable voltage pump wear out fast not slower, normal on all Nissan & Subaru's fuel pump needs to be replaced before 200k's

as Toyota & Honda one do over 250k's easy normally

Was thinking that, most people I know say you need to upgrade a std EVO pump even to run 18psi on a std engine as the pumps are on the limit,
although you'd expect the later ones to be better.
