ACL to close,

dont know if its for real yet,
but i have been told ACL Australia is bankrupt and shutting down,
they had a fight with ford i think and lost the supply deal, right after they spent big money re-tooling to start supply,
there parent company wont bail them out,

saw there was a mad rush to buy ACL race bearings,

From August 2009 it went into receivership...

Wehn you consider you get 230,000kms out of a set of factory ones. Then again how much do Toyota want for 3SGTE big ends these days ?

Some prices ive got from them over the years

540cc Injectors $1000 each
Radiator $5000
TRD Supercharger $6000
3sgte Pistons $500 each (not including rings)

Wonder how much my spare T-Top glass is worth to them ? $3000 they could sell for $6000 and double their money.

remeber those are reccomended retails from toyota, not what people actually pay if they want them.

IMHO the best bearings in toyota engines are std toyota ones.

last time i checked on 4AGE bearings toyota wanted like $80 ea for mains. seems like alot to me *shrug*

yeah I didn't think their bearing prices were too bad at all - it varies from engine to engine though. It costs almost double for a set of 6A12 main bearings (4 of them) than it does for a 4G63 (5 of them).

In all cases it has been significantly cheaper to get ACL bearings than going OEM or even with some other aftermarket parts supplier. ACL cater to just about every car here on our roads here whereas the likes of Clevite or other makers are more American focused.

My 3SGTE ACL Race big ends were $220. When you consider you can get a full set of NPR OEM spec pistons and rings for the same price, you have to wonder how much they mark up a little box of bearings.

I suppose if they last 200,000+ kms then youve got to make as much $$$ as possible as for most people its a one off purchase, not really a repeat business item.

Anyone that spends $220 on a set of ACL race bearings intends to keep their car for a long time.

Ive seen cars get just as much milage and abuse from standard toyota bearings compared to ACL. Screw paying extra, OEM is best.

The point we're making is that ACL bearings *are* cheaper than OEM. OEM is best but the normal ACL bearings do just as good job, and the ACL race bearings do a better job under race conditions, perhaps not in the long run for street driven cars.

Ive had mixed pricing, sometimes ACL is cheaper, much cheaper, but sometimes they aren't. But my mistake ACL is definitely much cheaper overall.
