Front brakes out of balance

Postby celica_xr9145 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:09 pm

Am going through my 'to do' list for my car, just have a few more things to do.

One of the things on the list is out of balance front brakes for the warrent.

What are the common things that would cause this?

Pads look ok, the disc doesn't look warped, all the fluids are there. Am going to check for damaged brake lines tomorrow.

How would i check if the piston is working as it should?

Taken it to a few mechanics for advice but obviosly but there are so many things it could be so i'd like to rule out the usual before i fork out the money for a mechanic.

piston should go in by pressing by hand. If you have to apply serious force (G clamp), then it is rusted.

Here how you approach this problem (imbalance, not the rusted bore):
pull the calliper off,
remove the pads,
undo the bleed nipple,
push the piston,
tighten the bleed nipple,
pull out sliders (calliper sits on the sliders to where it is bolted on to)
clean the sliders,
grease the sliders,
check if the slider boots are damaged, replace them if necessary
assemble and bleed brakes.

As for the rusted bore, you would need to get honing tool and seal kit....
