Clutch Replacement

Postby watchthisspace » Thu Jun 17, 2010 7:41 pm

Hey,

just wondering how much, roughly it would cost to get a clutch replaced in a 96' BZG??

Thanks in advanced!

3-4 hours labour? + machining the flywheel

around $60 p/h so looking at $240+ depending on where you take it

Unless someone on here is willing to do a cash job for you. If your mechanically minded and get together with some friends it's a job you can do at home yourself.

Thanks for the replies! Not looking as expensive that I first thought. But I'll still quote around a few places as I'm no good with cars.

EDIT: Are there any trustworthy places I can inquire about this?

i think the tgp clutch kit is 199 plus (trade), so try and find someone who can get that price.

3-400 for it, even genuine, is just crazy for a 4age.

try mark the toyota forum sponser :)

then you'd just be looking at labour plus flywheel skim, its a fairly simple clutch to change.

Cheers! I'll ring a few mechanics tomorrow and quote them about it.

Add your location to your profile on here.

I'm assuming you are in chch, give Graham a ring, he's a good sort, would trust him with my car any day.

Many would also replace the MC & slave to complete the job. Their time is probably up too.

Also, engine & trans seals hardly cost anything when they're done along with the clutch.

Clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, the thing the pedal pushes on that pushes the other thing that pushes the clutch.
They may also call it the clutches' hydraulics.

Sorry, have added location.

Thanks, Graham seems like a very friendly guy and quoted me one of the cheapest prices of getting the clutch replaced with a standard one.

@Allencr, may I ask what the MC and slave is?

the master cylinder is the hydraulic bit that the clutch lever actuates when you push it in, this transfers pressure to the slave cylinder which is bolted to the gearbox on your car, and pushes the clutch rod into the clutch fork, which dis-engages the clutch. both have seals which wear, which is why allencr was talking about replacing them.

Just keep in mind cheapest quote isn't always the best way to go, worth paying a bit more to get it done by someone known to do a good job :) Make sure all quotes include the same things too, some might not include getting the flywheel skimmed etc.

Thanks! Will add that to the list.

@BZG|Bling, good point, will have to ask again if I do get that BZG and it needs it's clutch replaced.
