Sorry I should have said they can be very different. Some will be close, none will be the same as OEM because most of the KYB's stocked in NZ are their budget range. They have to be to compete with Monroe.
Where Toyota will do different shocks for a range, eg the ae101, basic models, fxgt, ze variants etc, KYB will do a one size fits all.....

Nothing wrong with them as cheap replacements, but they are not all identical to OEM. and they are not an upgrade on most things.
Same as TRD shocks are made by KYB Tokico and Bilstein, but you can't buy the exact same ones from them either.

Interesting fact, when at I was Autolign KYB were a small percentage of our sales, but made up most of our warranty claims.

So If the price is affordable OEM > aftermarket in most cases.
If you want to upgrade over OEM then you need to look at Koni bilstein etc unless you can find a Japanese brand stocked here. Eg KYB or Tokico sports type shocks.

That said 99% of people don't need $$$ flash shocks, just ones that do the job.

that being because you werent the agent for kyb and so you would sell them on monroe or bilstein preferably
kybs in nz are good enough for what people are using them for , anything else go to a better shock , koni in my opinion is the best for most applications , i run them in mine aswell 8)
most cheap adjustable shocks in nz are average , wouldnt really touch them , much better off with a good suspension package of quality stuff , and no point having adjustys and using them unless you are good friends with an alignment technician , as every small change changes your alignment settings .

:P Not at all. Because the only KYB's we had were ones that Monroe didn't do

yup sure am in bout 3 weeks a will have upgraded . koni inserts are quite different for each type of car though as they have to fit in the strut housing which i'm sure for an evo will be a lot larger than ae101.

but if anyone is interested for their ae101/ae92/ae111 PM me and we can work something out. done ~5000km's and been in there 9 months (3 of which has been parked in garage)

one big advantage of adjustables is that if you spend $600 on new shocks + $300 on new springs and find out that the gaurds rub on your new $1000 set of tyres, you can fix it very easily

More like your guards need rolling. Raising the justies is not a permanent fix. Roll is.
