JZS161 Aristo ARS system

Postby Crampy » Sat Jun 19, 2010 3:19 pm

Hi all.

My Aristo has just failed it's WOF for excessive rear wheel play.

Does anyone have any experience in this car or system? I'm guessing it'll be either the tie rod ends or the rack itself has play. I know a replacement rack can fetch prices in excess of $3500, so i'm hoping it wont come to that.

Can I buy just the tie rod ends for this car, or do they not sell them as a seperate item?

Would I be able to get the rack to looked at by a power steering place to get it fixed, recon... etc?

Any help greatly appreciated.
Chur.

Oh, another couple of options I've heard about are:

Swapping with Lexus GS300 tie rods and rear assembly (hubs as well from memory). My guess would be that'd be VERY expensive.

The final option is getting a TOM's ARS canceller bar. It's common for dudes into modifying Aristo's, but it could end up being much cheaper than fixing the problem at hand.

Thoughts?

if its play in the tie rods, and you cant find replacements, you could always get them rebuilt. bricon engineering is one place we have used.

Have replied in your project discussion mate. Our 161 doesnt have ARS so cant be too hard to retrofit non ARS and bin it.

Haha, damn right.

After a bit of a read up on Lexus and Aristo forums, it seems the ARS system is the weakpoint of the car (just my luck)

Tie rod ends do come separately, however x Japan only. Not too expensive about $35 each

I may have found a chepaer alternative to the TOM's ARS canceller bar.

Just waiting to hear back from the dude making them. They're on a UK Aristo forum.

fingers crossed.
