Ek help is this a blown clutch?

The other day my missis car broke just to be a pain in the ass, its a nissan sentra 1994, and when pusing in the clutch it wont go in gear and when you try put it in reverse it grinds, i got it into 1st and it was making a clunking sound, but doesnt make any noise while the clutch is engaged and in netural. its a cable clutch set up, but any suggestions what it could be cause i really cant be stuffed doing a clutch on a fwd. is it that hard to change it? and the clutch wasnt slipping or doing anything before it happend it just shat itself when pulling out of the driveway.

does it still drive? like if you turn it off and put it in first, then start the car, does it lurch forward? if you can see the clutch fork, its worth checking to see if its still got good movement when you push it in - to see if the cable is broken or jamming.

they are bad for breaking the clutch cable,

a clunking noise in gear isnt good either way

okay so clutch cable isnt stuffed, i got the starter motor out and it looks like there is no clutch left at all also there is heaps of play in the clutch fork, last question how on earth do i get the gearbox out ive undone all the bellhousing bolts, im guessing next i got to undo the axle from the hub and them what, undo tie rod end and what else? and do i need to do this to both sides or just one side and the other side will slide out from the gearbox? im so stumped!

i've never worked on a fwd (i've never owned one ) But you should probably take the bell housing bolts out last...

you do need the gearbox side driveshaft out at least. i would recommend removing them both for ease of reinstallation, particularly if you are doing it on the ground. i presume you have everything else disconnected too? shifter cables, plugs etc

there will be a couple of dowels its now hanging on, along with the input shaft so may take some persuasion to get it out.

most times you will need some way to support the engine, since any engine mounts connected to the gearbox will need to come off. and a way to lower the engine helps too, as most times you'll need a bit of angle to clear the box past the chassis rail.
