Charing 2 car batteries at once?

Postby cat007 » Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:49 pm

Howdy

I've got 2 batteries in the van I want to charge by tomorrow morning

The neg of them is hooked up to the chassis and I've currently temporarily got 1 jumper cable going between the pos terminals.

Will charging them like this put too much load on the charger? Or will it seem to the charger that it's just one really big battery and take twice as long to charge?

The charger has a cooling fan and I've never felt it get warm, let alone hot....

Cheers

Sounds like you have the batteries setup in Parallel, which is correct.

It'll just take longer to charge, you can't overload a modern battery charger if my sources are correct, unless it's a short circuit, which they should have an auto shutoff / fuse for that sort of thing.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

yeah, it's in parallel. Normally has a blocking diode but yeah, in this instance I've got them in parallel

cheers for that. Was hoping they'd be fine

The only time this could backfire so to speak is if one battery is faulty because the faulty battery will pull the voltage of the good one down and prevent it charging properly
"You can't do it like that!." "Why not?"
