What would you buy?

Postby .:O4AGTZ:. » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:27 pm

Not limited to Toyota of course, but I am curious as I will be finding myself in a similar situation soon.

If you had 8-10K to spend on a car for weekends/roadtrips (partner and I already have a daily driver) what would you buy? By this I am not meaning something that is so unreliable it should only be driven in the weekend, more like something that you dont want to drive everyday but use for special occassions and to have a bit of fun.

Toyota Cavalier.

Or maybe something awesome like a Range Rover, or a Jeep.

I'm making the assumption that we're going with "worst possible automotive choices available" if the first reply was a Biturbo.

funilly enough I was thinking something like that! quite like STIs, better than EVOs anyway. however the situation has not come around yet lol. give it a month or so, im just useless with decisions. Ill go out and buy something then the next day sit on trademe looking at all the better stuff i could have got.

Mx5! Winter is the time to buy before the prices start to head up coming into summer.

They have enough space in them to get a bit of luggage (my girlfriend and I managed to fit enough gear for a week away including sleeping bags and pillows etc), enough power for some fun and the most sublime chassis and steering you'll probably ever experience.

Not a person attack I just always see them as hairdresser cars since my school days where i picked it up. Each to their own but I could never be seen driving one or else my man card would be gone.

10k gets you a great condition V4 wrx or sti, think there might even be one for sale on here.... cough cough plug

10k would also get you a 2000-2001 evo4 shaped GSR in manual with low kms, I know many people that have owned them and absolutly love them

Could also get into a r 33gts25t , reliable and fast

Gen 3-5 mr2

St205

Heaps of choices really, if it was just a toy I would probably take a wrx at that price but the GSR's arnt slow, easy a match for NA honda's etc and seem to be really reliable

If I was in the situation of buying a fun impractical car with that amount of coin I think I would buy an ST205.

Im not sure why, I have just always liked them

Yea seems to be a lot of opinions but my general idea seems to be swaying towards a jappa 2L Turbo of sorts, STis prob top of the list but I also have always wanted a ST205

1000cc bike

PS a friend of mine has a maserati biturbo. in the time it was on the road, he had the cambelt snap (rebuild #1), bottomed out the sump on the motorway (rebuild #2) had the diff fall out of the carrier, broken drivers window cost him nearly 1k to get sorted... he paid 20k for it, has spent easily that on it since. its been on axle stands for about 5 years, rusty and bent from previous smashes (they are quite square and swap ends easily)

totally sweet car though, i'd own one

205's are wicked, only down side is not as practical (Size wise) as the Sti/GSR

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Dont really like the GSRs aye. As for EVOs IMO the only good ones were 3 and 7 and 8. EVO 4s are rediculously common these days and I hear are the slowest and most troublesome ones of all of them.

they not SLOW, I mean they would be as quick as an V4 sti.

The main issue with them appears to be the AYC, apparently the diff shit's itself but other than that you seem to see a few with high kms still going strong

But yeah evo 7's are hot
