Simple Q: ECU

Postby TazzieDevil » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:59 pm

I have a manual 89 Celica that may have a dud ECU, need a new one as everything else has been checked out as fine. However, most of the Pick a part Celica's and those on Tard ME are auto. Will an Auto ECU be the same as a manual? or not?

Cheers

The question maybe better. Could you run the Auto ECU and short some pins etc... on the ecu to tell it is netural?

If the auto ecu has an inbuilt ect you'll have to trick it into thinking it's in neutral so it can start, shouldn't be an issue. You'd have to check whether the auto ecu would survive without an input from the box, some ecus will run in limp mode or wont start. Others are happy to just have the auto inhibitor shorted.

Neutral start is not donr through the ecu so will have no effect.

Chances are if it physically plugs in it will work,

But I would bet that it probably wont even plug in as the connectors will be different.
