Since I have a De-Reg SW20 which I CBF finishing and an L200 Diesel ute which is damn handy to have but rediculously expensive to register, I put 2 and 2 together and had a crazy thought. Why not put the 3S into the ute.
I have a mig, grinders, engine crane, access to a decent size garage and most of the knowledge to go with, but is there anything particularly hard about this?
I have read that all Toyota diesels use the 3S bellhousing, is this true? If so, what would be the best gearbox to handle the power of a stock 3SGTE yet still have useable ratios?
Other than the obvious distributor location, what else is involved in converting the 3S to RWD? Also, any hints on overcoming the dizzy problem much appreciated.
I have another car which I can use as a daily driver so this being a long term project is no biggie. I figure selling the 4D56 and associated bits would probably cover approx half the cost of the conversion, so would this be a reasonably wallet friendly conversion considering I already have the ute and the donor car?
OR, should I put this in the too hard basket and forget the idea all together?
Cheers,
Shay.
