Whats the point in sanding the brakes? less friction on the disk?

No, just so that you'll have an equal starting point & they'll have similar surfaces. The passenger side usually gets more water dirt smegma thrown at it.

Check your rear brake hoses. When they get older they can collapse inside which tends to screw up your balance a bit.
