The issue i have with it, is despite all its awesomeness, its still a lexus...a $850,000 lexus.....

eg....

rich guy pulls up to golf course, friends come over to check out the new car..

"nice car, what is it?"

"a lexus"

"no not your daughters daily driver, the thing you just turned up in"

"yes, its a lexus"

"ok....how much was it? $150k? $175?"

"$850,000"

"hahaha, yeah good one mate, pull the other one"

"im serious"

*.......*

*much laughter and pointing ensues*

oh im sure you would hear it. and see it...

Dont get me wrong, i love it, if i won the powerball it would go straight to the top of essential first purchases. But for 99% of the people who could actually afford one (the real "rich" people"), where status and such means everything, its hard to see many people actually buying one of these. I saw a top gear episode the other day, with richard thrashing one, thought exactly the same thing...its a near $1million lexus. And the hamster knows best

but considering they are making bugger all of them anyway, it shouldnt be a problem i guess

If you buy the Nurburgring Edition LFA at todays pound prices its about $720 K NZD.

Thats a real popular arguement the cost of this car but even at those prices which supposedly are extreme Toyota/Lexus are still taking a bath on every car sold there not making money with this car so if they did it cheaper you want TMC to take a even bigger hit,I don't think so at the end of the day they run a business to make money aswell.

Its just like VW with the Bugatti Veyron they cost like 3-4 mill to build and there taking something like a 2.5 mill hit on every car sold.

I think this Lexus is a fore runner of alot of technology that is going to be filtered through the Lexus/Toyota range.I mean for example I've seen pics of the 2011 IS-F they are already starting to use interior bits that are going in the LFA.

You do realise they have already pre-sold 500 already so you could win powerball but you could'nt buy an LFA off TMC as they are already sold out.

bit of a difference between a veyron and this though...thats in a league of its own, where as this is on par with a nissan GTR. or a 911 turbo.

as far as taking a bigger hit on the price, yeah i reckon they should of. Perhaps limit the run to an even smaller number, and cut it down to somewhere in the $350-450k mark, so the loss isnt as taxing on the bottom line, would make them that much more exclusive as well, without being seen as a marketing joke in years to come...

No. It's not. It is above those.
Those are mass produced cars anyone can buy. The LF-A, is not.
I too thought the price was extreme. Going by how fast they sold though, obviosuly it wasn't.

i dont get the badge snobbery myself. anything that looks and goes (and sounds!) that well gets two thumbs up from me - i'd take one over any of the cars being mentioned in this thread... the fact that its a lexus should really be a good point from where im standing, when the greatest car manufacturer in history turns its hand to a car like this you know its going to be something special.

Status means enough to you, that you wouldnt buy the lexus.

So that attitude is obviously not reserved only for people with millions of bucks. :P

If I was super rich, I'd buy an LFA... So I could pull the motor out and put it in a starlet :P

Being rich wouldnt mean not having pulled apart cars and unfinished projects

Finish round of golf and friends drive off in their ferrari 458's
You pass them down the road, their cars on fire..

but at least they had status

actually if you read it through properly, you would see i would get one if i could. Personally, its become one of my favourite supercars ever, and considering its essentially a toyota makes it even cooler.

Why are the Veyron and LFA different they are both very unique in there own ways. The Veyron with its top speed and the LFA with its track speed they both achieve the same thing just in different ways.

For me what I have gathered out of all the reports on the LFA are that if you are a purist ie a good driver you will appreciate the LFA for what it is an amazing track weapon.I think for the purist the only other cars that get near it for driving experience are the Porsche GT3 RS and the GT2 RS.

All the rest the Lambo's GTR Ferrari 458 Mercedes SLS are just loaded up with to many electronic gadgets that take away from the driving experience.

It'd be fine on some 165's.......
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

That's what I've always thought about this car.... The people that buy (well, really the people that Lexus chooses to receive it) will not care about the status it gives them, or the fact that it is a Lexus, or japanese, they will care that it will give the best driving experience possible.

The whole point of Lexus choosing people that put thier names up is so the car isn't stuck in a garage it's whole life, only seen by the owner, or collectors and then sold at a premium. The fact is, they want this car driven. Hard.
Cheers,
Brandon
