LVV cert emissions testing

Postby ATAl » Fri Sep 03, 2010 4:43 pm

Hi all,

My car needs a cert for the turbo, suspension, brakes etc, but I've just read on the LVV site that they test for emissions if you've done an engine conversion. This worries me a lot as the car (89 levin) has no emissions gear whatsoever.

Now does putting a 20 valve into the car which originally had a 16 valve count as an engine transplant?

Has anyone had a car certed recently and had problems with the emissions testing?

I did and that's why I'm worried, not sure if the 20 valve conversion really counts as an engine conversion as the difference between the engines is basically the head.

that is a reasonably straight forward set of tests you need to pass, I would think any engine that's running properly will easily fly through the on-road testing, the only pain in the ass is having to fit a cat, but you're allowed to fit second hand ones so it doesn't even have to cost much.

You should pass unless your tune is seriously on the piss.

I have a 2JZGTE swapped into my car and got emissions tested when i did mine. All that was looked for was AF i think? Passed no worries and i had no emissions gear (CAT etc)

Make sure things are all up to spec like a clean air filter :)

The a/f ratio should be fine, my worries are that there is no cat, and the pcv system is removed.

You need a cat because the car originally had a cat and the new engine originally had a cat. So get a high flow cat, not hard to find and not that crazy in price. Put a PCV system in, it is designed to run one.
