20v questions

Postby gmacrae » Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:20 am

I've got a good blacktop head/intake i'm gonna put a on my silvertop soon and just have a couple of questions about it. The car is already running the blacktop ecu/loom.

1) Is the blacktop head/valves compatible with the cutouts in the silvertop pistons? ie will it still be non-interference?

2) What will the resulting compression ratio be like?

3) I assume the silvertop head gasket is the same as blacktop?

4) anything else I should know?

5) I'm after a blacktop exhaust 2-1 section and blacktop front/cambelt covers - anyone got this stuff to sell me?

Cheers lads

Answers

1) Yes.

2) About 10.2 to 1 at a guess. Will be less as the blacktop has larger combustion chamber.

3) Yes.

4) Have you got the blacktop plenum? If not the silvertop one can be drilled to acept the backtop throttle bodies.

5) Sorry cant help. I should get a welder and start making headers...

TBH with respect to the headers, it is probably best only get the 4-2 section of the blacktop headers as they are a bit better than the silvertop and get a 2-1 section made up as the blacktop 2-1 section is shit.

@affroman - i would like to see someone make cheap headers for blacktop, mine cost me about $400 in materials and argon. not exactly a bargain still.

I make it 9.9 to 1 from my measurements

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

im with ya on that one - dont want low compression... might just make up a decent fresh block and swap the lot in.

I've got a good blacktop block and pistons, but crank and rods are buggered... anyone got a good set of silvertop rods and crank they wanna sell me? not interested in anything with spun bearings
