ST 205 brakes

Postby Anth_555 » Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:18 pm

ok so ive gone to 5x114 and the stock rotors can not be redrild to the new PCD as they wont fit over the hub flange. the plan was to use supra rotors and have brekets for the calipers made but there is no room to move them round. so the calipers have to stay where they are. can you get 2 peice rotors in 315mm? or is there a 4pot caliper witha smaller bolt hole distance? or any other ideas?

have you had a look through a brake disk catalogue? I found an EBC one online that had dimensions for most production cars, and used it to find suitable disks for my conversion

There are no rotors in the catalog that are the same as the ST205 brake discs. The size is abnormal as its 315mm. The height is fairly deep at 59mm.
Majority of other dics over the 300mm mark are either a shallow height or when you get into the Dodge viper and Ferrari stuff the heights are like 70-80mm+.

2 piece rotors I got a quote for a DBA and it was like nearly $700 for a pair.
You would be better off buying Wilwood calipers and making them fit!

Also you wont get any other discs to fit the st205 caliper as the surface of the brake pad is quite wide, meaning if you stepped up to a bigger PCD the inner circle of the disc will become bigger and this inner part will hit the caliper. But I could be wrong. You would need to try it out.

You should be able to get a fair bit of coin selling the celica ones if you had to go that way as well. Should offset the cost of new bits nicely :)

go to 18inch rims and put some DBA2808's on it

or go to 17's and run JZA80 front 323mm discs. or look late model STi 325mm front discs

I had issues when I mounted my hats directly to stock discs. The hats would grow at a faster rate than the disc due to it being aluminium. Therefore cracking the discs where the hat mounted to it.

Had to slot where the bolts went through, make all these little spacers so it would hold the hat off the disc xx thou which allowed the hat to grow and not crack the disc.

But that was for racing. For the road you prob should be ok :)
Nice work.

You should be fine with mild steel!

Celsior/LS400 run a 315mm disc, might be worth hitting the Brembo catalogue to see how it compares. Have a set on my KE70 with the matching 4 pot calipers.

But is only 28mm wide.
The Celica calipers are made for 32mm wide discs. 30mm would be the minimum I would go.

And it's not a big problem to fit a spacer behind the pads, assuming you don't want the work/cost involved in going to two piece rotors.

celica rotors are 30 min 28 mm like supra . Celsior/LS400 run 28mm min 26mm. also the offset of the disc is out by 4mm so they cant be used and they have no where near the venting the celica rotors do
