So Lotus, who's point of difference has always been producing super light cars with awesome handling, are now making the same sort of cars as everyone else?

That Esprit looks freaken sweet.

Dont know why the've made new models called elise and elite that bear no resemblance in design or looks to the older models though.

Share the same philosophy though?
Seems the focus is still on light weight....
But we will see when they come out!
Colin did want to make good grand tourers as well...

Same reason the Beetle was a light rear engine air cooled car with 7 moving parts ... now the new Beetle is a podgy VW Golf in drag ;)

At the same time Lamborghini has gone the other way and built a light car

Built almost entirely out of Carbon Fibre and CFRP and weighs in at ~900kg

Oh and it has a V10 producing 570hp

Funny you should mention them. They were the first name that popped into my head when I saw some of the Lotus pics!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Shit a brick, that lambo looks sweet. :o

It kinda looks like that god awful stealth fighter looking thing they made, but actually like a car that goes fast.

Instead of a car out of an early 90s computer game that could only use a maximum of 80 polygons.

Yeah it's so ridiculous it's awesome! It also accelerates just as fast as the Veyron in spite of having half the power  Shows the gains to be had from good Power/Weight ratios

The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

yes i have and it seems lotus is/might walking away from there established lightweight identity. maybe trying to fill the lost aston martin spot?

Lamborghini was sort of expected to go light weight but not as drastic as they seem to be going, when the lp640 came out it was a winner. it was still lambo crazy but without all the flab, lucky cos the original gallardo was shite.

someone has a horn on for CFRP much?

also remember when lambo had a really bad case of explosive carbon brake discs?

Why would Lexus get a mention? :? Because of the LFA?

not saying they would get a mention,

things like...
"The concept is the only vehicle manufactured in the world to have mastered the complete CFRP process across a range of technologies, from 3D design through simulation, validation, production, and testing"
lexus did it.

"Lamborghini is redefining the future of the super sports car with a unique technology demonstrator. Boasting an extremely lightweight construction thanks to advanced carbon-fiber technology,"
lexus did it.

"Innovative carbon-fiber technologies are being used here for the first time in an automotive application."
lexus did it.
