In that case it would be $100, which sounds resonable.

well here's your first problem.

3SGTE's (that aren't in crappy Caldinas) run just fine on 95. Not that long ago that many parts of the country didnt even get 98 - some still can't get it.

All you need to do is to hook up a voltmeter to the oxy sensor and get a readout.
That way you'll know if it's lean or not .....waste of time and money swapping parts by guesswork.
It's more than likely you've got too much timing advance for the fuel used.
98 will stand more advance than 95 for the same boost.

Basides, if you can hear it pinging you've probably already broken a ringland and the oil in the chamber is causing even more ping.

Have a look at the plugs.

even better, post up a pic.

Paid $220 iirc for a Bosch .044 this time last year, just for reference.

i noticed a huge difference in my gt4, felt horrible, and yes when you can hear it, its too late. so why risk it for the sakes of a couple of dollars extra a tank?

LOL!

Anyways, if you want a real O2 readout, I have a wideband, just slip me a $20 and you can use it for the day.

I think 10 degrees is too much advance for running on 95, try going to 8 degrees and see how it goes.

Standard timing is 10deg... so i just set it to that, could lower it no probs
wouldnt think there would be tooooo much difference from 95 to 98octane... but every bit helps i suppose.

ill get that pump off levinguy $100

It runs fine, has only ever ping'd once... i was having missfire issues, when i fixed them i went for a drive, it went great, so i turned up the boost. was still under 15psi, and it went fine untill it started boosting higher at high rpm then it ping'd loud! but only for afew secs, i quickly took my foot off.

Forged pistons, so unlike the standard ones, it should be able to take 1 second of det. Blows no smoke

Forged pistons are great, the ping is often enough to unseal the headgasket though and hammer the big ends.

i was able to run another 4-5psi and make 30kw more on my little 1500 5efhe +t, so yeh 98 makes a big difference if your engine requires it.

i actually agree with steve on this one. if detonation is audible, its way up the blow up your engine, end of the scale.
