Mine is 'low' but looks high which is gay, but I can barely get up my drive as it is....already hitting it at a 45..... how do you even drive it that low?

its got a 3sgte in it, therefore it doesnt get driven and being low is no problem

It was my daily in Auckland for a long time and it's actually higher in the front now than it was then. The bodykit just makes it look lower because it's huge. The back is about 10mm lower.



As for the 3SGTE - they're actually really good engines. One of the most economical engines Toyota makes IMO. I know lots of people that have gone years without spending a cent on fuel for them. Beat that!

The exhaust photo you've got as an example looks to be directed away from the perimiter of the vehicles passenger compartment. Should be legal if it's not going to poison you, be too loud, or maim pedestrians.

A picky WoF man would say that it is placed in a spot that is high risk of burning the drivers leg on entry or exit. Be very interesting trying to get it quiet enough too.

They'd have to be really picky. Some cars have exhausts that run the entire length of the door. Mine is right at the rear wheel and I'd have to do something really retarded to have my legs there (I've tried)

Getting it quiet is no drama. There's a lot more room to play with forward of the engine than there is under/behind it. The old ~1m 3" straight pipe it had was 9db over the limit. This one will be longer and have several bends as well as a good quality muffler in line. I'll be very surprised if it's over 99db.

Side pipes have to run heat shields al the way down, although you will find many are fake with the exhaust only joining in at the end. I only raised it as most people tend to step to the rear of the door as they open or close it to give it room to swing. If you have decent heatshielding then it shouldn't present a problem, just hard to tell in the pic how far behind the rear of the door it is. When you mention not exiting passenger side is there any particular reason? thats where mine is going, the certifier never questioned it before we built the exhaust tunnel through the floor/sill and I haven't seen anything in the rules about it.

Pedestrians are on the passengers side of the car. As funny as I think it would be to bbq people's kids with backfires, I don't think the law enforcement fraternity would see the funny side of it. The main reason mine is on the drivers side is because that's where the turbo outlet faces and there's no fuel related gear on the drivers side

Unless you drive on the right side of the road, sidewalks/footpaths are generally closer to the left side of the car than anywhere else. Heavy/PSV's etc aren't allowed to have their exhausts exit on the left side for the same reason (In the VIRM)

One of the most economical engines Toyota makes IMO. I know lots of people that have gone years without spending a cent on fuel for them. Beat that!

My old one was actually economical, for a twelve second car.

Heading back from MM 05 I managed 8.33 l/100km for the Auckland to Taupo section. Have seen over 550km out of a tank full as well.

Drive down some bits of Lambton Quay in Wellington .... one lane, one direction, pedestrians close both sides of your car at equal distances.

But my point was , people don't just walk into the side of cars on one side, nor do cars crash into people just on one side.

I don't make the rules I just follow them It's what I was told by the guys at VTNZ so that's what I'm gonna do regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

VTNZ guys tend to be full of shit, however your logic can't be faulted. I think I should be ok with passenger side exit as long as I keep it pointed downwards.

Just a note from my experience - I had exactly the same thing with the exhaust coming out the side behind the drivers door, I removed it after a few weeks because my right ear wouldn't stop ringing after driving.
