That will certainly show the 'boyracers' that they will get punished for killing people while drifting on the streets. Hell, why bother even worrying about the consequences, this was (IMO) going to be a landmark case. But all they managed to do was show the system has no balls at all to punish people not willing to be part of this society.

Modified car,
Drifting on the street,
Kill and injury people,
????
Profit.

Un-$&#$%-believeable....

I Don't know about profit. Sure the guy won't serve jail time. But he killed a kid with his car because he was being a dick.

Pretty certain that'd be heavy price to pay. Now, if he was caught doing something like skids, drifting, speeding within 3 years or so then this is proof that its not made a difference - then huge prison. But I'm pretty certain this wouldn't be necessary.

I hate it how they make such a big deal of the car being modified... it had no bearing on the outcome. If some sh!tty uncertified welding had failed and caused the crash, or something like that, then that would be a factor.

His reckless crap driving in rush hour in a busy area caused the death... not the modifications.

No doubt it will affect him, but some kid is dead and he is "feeling bad". Doesn't equal out in my books. He stuffed up in so many ways, but gets off so lightly it makes the whole 'justice' system look like a joke. It's not just this case however. The drunk woman fleeing a drink drive stop and killing someone got no proper punishment either. Fail hard!

As for my comment about profit, I was just following the 'template' of
A
B
C
??
Profit

There is no profit, you're right.

On the plus side, modified cars (legally modified included) are now once again under the spotlight. With a report to be made looking into how Australia limits / bans modifications could possible be brought over here.

Cheers..

the law is not black and white dude the judge takes into account various factors.if the family can forgive him why cant you? he has done everything in his power to make amends yet while none of us can truely empathize with what that family has gone through clearly from this video he is genuinely sorry and jail time would serve no benefit here.

Did the investigation not find that the illegal mods contributed to the loss of control? I recall reading it did...

Could be worse. Could have been drunk and taken off after being stopped by police, killing someone and then getting an even smaller punishment.

I believe this case was similar with the family forgiving the girl who committed the crime.Obviously we don't have all the facts (we get our facts from the media) but given the facts which you have stated there's got to be more to the case than that, how would the family forgive her? I know I wouldn't

Easy thing to say if you've never been in that situation. If you don't forgive someone that did something like this you'd never move on and heal. Harbouring feelings of resentment towards the person just causes the pain to last longer and it doesn't change the fact that their kid is gone and everyone involved is in a shitty position and will have that on their minds for the rest of their lives.

Going through life knowing you once killed someone (especially an innocent child) can't be easy for anyone with even the slightest hint of a conscience.

I say good on them for being able to forgive the guy and start mending their lives. Good on him for admitting guilt and doing everything he can to lessen the family's pain. Both sides could have made it way worse than it's turned out.

I can see where you are coming from and in a way do agree, but what im trying to say is any person basiclly fighting for there freedom trying to impress anyone they can could convince the familly that they are a good person and regret greatly what they have done. But does that change what they have done? Look at the guy the other week that went through the railway crossing and killed his son i think it was, didnt he get 3 years? Where is the difference in these cases, two different people made two stupid mistakes which cost inocent lifes. The person who went through the crossing had the support ect of his familly, not all of it from what the media says but at least his wife ect, he had a familly yet he still go three years

The problem is no matter what the punishment, people will still do exactly the same thing. He never thought he would lose control and kill the kid.

Sure he should have got a stiffer sentence, but he has to live with the fact he killed a kid that will screw him for life.

The pity is that no mater what happens to him it wont stop it happening again.

what would have been the point of locking him up? is he a danger to society?
plenty of people have had way smaller punishments for worse crimes

even though I think it sends a bad message to let the guy walk free, I agree that:
a) Sending him to prison would not have had any positive outcomes for the remainder of the guy's life - there's a good chance he'd get beaten, raped, become a drug addict, and basically leave more likely to engage in criminal acts than before he went in, find it hard/impossible to get a steady job (let alone build a career), and rather than potentially being a contributing member of society, he would probably become a drain on society
b) Nobody does stuff like that thinking there's a chance they're going to crash, and definitely not thinking they're going to kill someone, so the consideration of if they'll end up in jail if they kill someone will not cross their mind at all, so while putting him in prison might "send a message", I can't see it changing the behaviour of a single driver that they would want to target anyway.
