Do you let the pump automagically stop pumping and it reaches 29 litres?

Or do you keep filling very slowly but manually after it automagically stops the pump?

Could bhe the air pressure trigger thingee majig that's broken and sense a fake pulse thingee to the pump and it's stopping way earlier than it should.

Try fill it slowly once the pump stops and see if you can go right up to the brim.

yeah thats possible, but its been like that on the last 6 fills and at different pumps.

Is your tank anything like the AE86 that has almost 1/4 of its volume above the filler pipe, so that it needs a small tube inside its filler, positioned just right, to give the trapped air bubble a pathway out?
If that little tube isn't free of fuel, it doesn't work.

My car did the same thing when it wasn't empty, not as bad though. I never fixed it cos I'm lazy but since I first noticed it after putting in a new fuel pump I'm sure it was because the pump wasn't sitting low enough in the tank. I'd check that.

mate its empty. i know my car better than anyone, its def a low fuel pressure problem, im looking towards the pump not being in the right place.

I do wonder about this air lock thing tho...

It's probably still got ten litres in there but just not sucking it up properly. I'd make sure that the pump is in the right place and go from there...

It won't have a 30 litre tank.

Low fuel pressure and low fuel level are not the same thing.

Have seen cars run out of fuel with 1/2 a tank left due to incorrect fuel pump fitting,

and my car won't surge until it has less than 250ml's in the tank.

1) Run it dry
2) Put in a few litres to get it to the station (carry a small can in your car)
3) See how much it takes to fill (just out of interest)
4) Replace your fuel filter ($40)

A new filter is prolly a good idea 2.

Ok so the tank was getting close to empty.. as in the pump is noisy and it looses pressure as described earlier in this thread.

I dropped the fuel out and got around 12-14 litres out of it (a bucket and a half)

I removed the pump (ill post a pic) but its still mounted in pretty much the exact same place as the factory one, the pickup is slightly facing upwards so i bent it down wards but yeah it dont make sense ay..

I can see straight away that the bracket is lower than pickup.
can you modify fitment so the sock is lowest part of the pump?

yes, but its easier from underneath. (as in on the hoist)
