Link LEM G3 question

Postby sergei » Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:28 pm

I am quiet puzzled with the following:
I want to connect a temp sensor (for I/C Radiator fan - water/air setup) to LEM G3 so it will trigger an output to run the fan.

I have whole bunch of free Aux analogue inputs and a few free outputs, but if I choose "GP temperature" for any inputs, and "GP output" for any output, the condition selections does not have option to choose the "GP temperature".

One would think if they allow things like GP Temperature input, it should trigger something? Correct? What is the point of having GP Temperature or even Voltage 0-5 inputs if there is no way to use them? Hence I am thinking that I am doing something completely wrong.

your right, you cant do it. only way i see around it is connect your sensor to the IAT input and use that (thats if you not using IAT correction of course)

other option is g4 firmware upgrade.

I am using IAT as it is turbo application.
what are the chances of bricking my unit if flashed with g4 firmware?

problem with the g4 firmware upgrade is you have to setup everything again. i cant remember if it wipes the old maps, think it may do. but you can manually copy and paste the numbers from fuel and ignition maps, from g3 to g4. then alot of the other settings need to be setup from scratch. as most of its different with the g4 software.

i wouldn't attempt it, unless you tune it yourself. or are going to get it checked afterwards

plus it cost 220 bucks for the code to let you do it,

Oh, I see, currently there is no map, just setup for triggers and all.
I would flash it but for $220, I can setup my own micro with multiple inputs and outputs...
So link charges 220 for this firmware?

What else is better about G4 firmware?

Hardly worth it as you can almost upgrade to a G4 for that.

I already have G3, I have purchased it about 3 years ago. I feel a bit duped that the specs/advertisement material had all these extra Aux inputs/outputs that I in reality, cannot use.

Or by upgrade you mean they offer an exchange programme?

I mean you can get about $1300 for a G3 on TM,

and I could sell you a used G4 for about $1500.

How hard is it to have a coolant temp switched PWM? too hard for them obviously. typical of any link other than the last generation, cant run squat.

what about the digital input, are you using that? you could use a temp switch that switchs the di. then use the output.. but if your doing that, you may as well just run temp switch through a relay

or you could set it up that the fan turns on with tps% or iat. hook up the DI to speed sensor. then you can tell the fan to turn off over 50kph for example. that way its going to turn on if your driving it hard and stay on until the iat has come down. but not over 50kph as you should have the airflow anyway

can do alot more with the g4 firmware, dl lastest pc link and have a play with it

Speed sensor+IAT sounds good idea that I considered.

I can't believe people will still pay over $1200 for second hand LEM G3 units, since I paid for new one $1250 3 years ago (which included loom).
