Bleeding Brakes - ABS

Whats the procedure for bleeding brakes with ABS?

My 97 Qualis brake pedal goes to the floor pretty easily. I bled each wheel the normal way and when the cars off the pedal is hard as rocks, soon as the engines running its soft and goes to the floor?

any help?

Had same thing with my old levin, turned out brake pads where rather worn

Are you bleeding with the engine running? If so, don't.

Just bleed normally while the engine is off. I did have a quick google and the only thing I did noticed was this

The good news: Air that has entered the ABS controller can be bled out. Bad news: Some vehicles require the use of a hideously expensive proprietary ABS scan tool to cycle the pump and valves to purge the last of the air. But there's a simple solution to that: Never let any air enter the system. You can flush a system with fresh fluid by using nothing more than a wrench that fits the bleeder bolts -- and a helper with a normal attention span.

Im bleeding it with the car off, and it feels really good and pedal is stiff. soon as the car is running all the feeling is gone and with a descent push on the pedal it touches the ground

might be a silly comment but is there plenty of brake fluid in the resevoir?

Another really silly question is your mate taking his foot off the brake and sucking some air back into the line rather than leaving it depressed when you retighten the nut?

Try it with the key on (not started).

After, turn the car on, pump the brakes up to build pressure then hold. Does the pedal slowly go to the floor?

Pump the pedal a few times with the car turned off and make sure it is nice and hard and feels ok.

Keep the pedal pushed and start the car and dont let it off.

Does it sink all the way to the floor when the car starts?

If so it's the booster working.

have struck it on a honda, and it's normal.
You will find that how hard you are pushing the pedal to get it to the floor,
is way past the pressure that it will lock up the wheels and the ABS pushes the pedal back.

If you are confident, drive it and try the brakes on the road then decide if there is a fault.

No air is getting back, ive bled brakes a billion times on other cars, just never with ABS. Thanks though

The brakes seem to be working ok, I have been driving it like this for quite a while, theyre not 100% but I dont thin ktheyre dangerous,

Reason why im doing this is because I failed a WOF on 'brake pedal going to the floor'

Some WOF guys wouldn't have a clue. Not a VINZ or VTNZ was it?

Anyone that does warrants but doesn't do repairs usually have no clue on how stuff works as over time they loose there brain in a place like that.

Had the exact same problem with my EVO with ABS when i was getting it back together.
Bled the brakes normally with the key on, and the pedal felt good and hard.
Started the car and the pedal would go to the floor.
I bled the brakes quite a few times with the same result.
Then decided to bleed them with the engine running and it was perfect, hard pedal with or without engine running.
Im assuming with the engine running the valves were open in the ABS pump to remove the air.
There are no bleed valves on the pump either.

Just my 2c of experience.
