not that i'm not happy in my job i know it will take a while to get into it but just thought i would enjoy it more for taking a massive paycut. i find myself happier when i'm working hard, if i have spare time i will procrastinate and be lazy. uni has been bad for me. :lol:

still a student got another year of study but this has made me consider a few things like maybe i should just go back on the farm and earn $100K a year + free house rather than work in town for $40-50K and have to pay rent/mortgage.

i reckon work hard when you can and you are young and enjoy it when you get a bit older. my grandparents have done this and now go on a holiday overseas every year for the last 15years. how sweet would that retirement be??

if you can get a 100k a year with paying no rent, i'd do that like crazy for 15-20 years, save heaps, invest heaps. and then retire.

I would say lifestyle, but would be willing and possibly will, but some hard yards in for a couple of years being sparky on a rig/ mine to save some serious cheddah, to set me up for the lifestyle, even if it means paying the mortgage till. If i could save 80k a year, then boom, mortgage paid by the time im 25

working long hours on the farm isn't as stressful as working in town or in an office. you are out in the middle of nowhere with only a dozen or so other people you have to deal with and i spend a lot of time just driving on the motorbike/tractor (farm is 8km of gravel road front to back) and its very peaceful. not many people understand how farmers enjoy the serenity and the 'lifestyle' of living in the middle of nowhere but it is something a bit different.

i don't think i could work crazy hours if i was living in town and dealing with traffic, paying rent etc put it that way.

yeah but it sounds like he will burn out working 9-5 in town waaay before working twice that on a farm. as well as earning more then double on a farm.. he's complaining about having to much free time..?

seems logical to go back to your old job..? pays better, sounds like you enjoy it better.., isnt as stressfull, no rent costs.

Go the lifestyle

I work about 30 hours and have a three day weekend every week. My job doesn't pay much more than minimum wage, but I don't mind it and have heaps of free time to do the things that I want to do. This will all end when I get back to Japan next year with the missus and have to start working a real job again, but I am enjoying my easy going lifestyle while it lasts.

If you were happier on the dairy farm then go back to dairy farming, it's not rocket science. If that is the lifestyle you love, you shouldn't really be doing anything else

People worry far too much about their careers, income, house and car when they really should be worried about their health, family, hobbies and happiness. No one should need objects to make themselves happy, especially not here in New Zealand.

Heaps of money would be wicked but seeing as I struggle to get out of bed at 7am I couldn't imagine what it would be like getting up before sunrise everyday of the week for work!

well it all depends on perspective doesn't it. like i'd be dissapointed if i'm not a millionnaire (worth of assets anyway) by the time i'm 50 or so. whereas some people might consider just being able to pay mortgage payments as their definition of having enough money to enjoy life.

i think big. its not about dying with the most toys but enjoying your time when you get older and being comfortable as your body starts to get slower. its all about making use of being young by working hard when you are so you don't have to when you're old. as the saying goes 'make hay while the sun shines' pops to mind.

what is peoples definition of being content with their monetary situation??

tounge you sound Like you would be content as a slave lol.
I get my definition of being content based on what my parents provided me however after living away from home for a while now im drawing more from what I want from life not From what I have been taught.

well thats the thing. the long hours wouldn't be worth it if you didn't get the money to go with them.
but i'm not convinced the lifestyle is worth not having the extra money.

i'm actually quite amazed by this poll. thought there would be more people out there putting in the extra effort for the money.

If you work too hard towards easy living when you are older, you will wake up one day rich, old, and have done nothing exciting. If you do whatever you feel like at the time you will always be working and life will always be a struggle.
Finding a balance that suits you is key.

BZG Wagon has a real dilemma... I like to choose the option where I don't know how it will turn out, cos if I know what will happen then it's boring already :lol:

P.S. money is required for many lifestyle options.
