Forum Glitch on Wednesday/Thursday

Postby BlakJak » Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:30 am

All

Just to confirm there was a problem with the forum over the last couple of days and our webhost's webhost was forced to restore from a backup, this means there's a few days worth of forum business missing.

Unfortunately this is beyond our control - but it's being investigated.

On the whole we get pretty good service from our hosts so this is just 'one of those things' for an otherwise excellent arrangement.

Sorry for the inconvenience however!!

BJ.

Just to elaborate on this - Unfortunately one of our servers had a database corruption issue and had to be restored from backup.

This was handled by a third-party (the host we have a VPS with that we moved Toyspeed to some time ago to save some cost) We will see if it is possible to restore the missing posts, however there are no guarantees of this. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately I wasn't aware of it until BlakJak rang me, until then i'd only had a generic email from the provider:
At approximately 17:00 hours on Thursday the 16th of December, suffered a hard disk failure while rebuilding from a previous hard disk failure & caused your VPS server to become unresponsive. Services began being restored at 17:23, with the majority being restored by 17:48.

While we were able to recover the majority of the VPS servers unfortunately 3 VPS's experienced file system corruption & our engineers are restoring backups as we speak. We had scheduled maintenance planned last night which included this server, but did not undertake this as we had a request to reschedule this. We believe this fault was triggered while copying data in preparation for migrating the VPS servers this evening.

As this is the second fault we've experienced on this hardware node, we are going to be migrating all customers off this node within our standard maintenance window this evening, at 00:00 Friday the 17th of December - 06:00 Friday the 17th of December.

What has annoyed me (which i've relayed to them) is that at no point did anyone say 'You are one of the three; go and check stuff' which would have made things a lot easier to turn off the forums, check everything, recover the changes and continue as normal. Now merging the missing posts (if available) would be significantly different and may not happen - so again I apologise for this.
