http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 295996.htm

Does anyone know about this here supra or by any chance is the current owner is on these forums?

if so my brother is possibly looking at a new car and he asked me about this one in particular - he doesn't terribly know much about cars and has bought his share of complete shitboxes of late and i want to do a little tire kicking on his behalf

from a glance of the pics it looks in good nick and the owner is claiming no rust which i wont know until i see for myself

if my brother stays interested in it we will definatly go see it in person but i thought id ask here first

what do you guys think?

I don't know about it sorry, but could someone in Dunedin check out a Supra for me please to save me a heartbreak if it isn't up to par (coming from Auckland) - I don't know how big Dunedin is, but if it is convenient enough for anyone, can someone take a look at it for me?

lol hes a mate of mine and i wrote the TM thing hhahaah, What do you want to know about it?

Im pretty sure theres no rust on it, it had a respray a few years back and a touch up last year ( where he ran out of paint)

engine has a bit of a miss, might be the coil-ignitor might be a few things He should at least change the leads and plugs...

bodys nice and straight tho

ok cool - brother is sorta looking for something turnkey - the miss might put him off if its not a terribly easy\cheap to fix

the main thing im personally worried about is the boot\boot floor - apparently the MKIII's have a nasty habit of rusting out the boot floor due to the hatch\tail light seals giving out and letting water in - mine rusted out majorly below the tail lights and around the spare wheel well - if those areas are rust free then that's a worry off my mind gone :P

aside from the miss hows the engine in general? any smoke or starting\running issues? does it chew oil or soil it?

and the gearbox\diff - do they run well with no odd crunches or noises and look after their oil as well?

probably another thing a mechanic friend noted as well - since it has a 3" exhaust it might be running higher than normal boost - how long has it had the 3" setup and does it have any trouble with boost cut or spike?

that's all i can think of about now - i think my brother is reasonably keen on it but hes bought his share of dogs before by rushing in and being an idiot - i just wanna help him avoid buying something that might bite him in the ass :)

Cheers :D

Aaron

also @ sic - no worries was considering jacking your thread LOL - im not in dunners but a few others are

I don't know what the miss is, but its when its over 4 grand

Yea the boot lecks and the carpet gets wet, but no rust as of yet.

bit smokey, these 1g engines run fukin rich lot of black smoke (fuel) on boost and i think it uses a bit of oil to be fair.

the diff seams to lock up nice, wee whine sometimes, unsure about gearbox, i think if i remember right it crunches reverse, but you pop it into first and then reverse and it doesnt crunch, my W50 did that on my supra.

its running a boost tap, the engine is gen 2 so It should be running 7psi factory I think the boost tap is set to 10psi and it holds nice, varys depending on the day etc

ah yup - does it run coil packs or is it a distributor? i forget on the 1G engines

the black smoke on WOT is fair enough - id rather a turbo engine run rich at full noise than lean thats for sure :P

cool thanks very much for clarifying this :D - i will relay this to my brother and he can make his decision on if he wants to chase it further ie test drive sorta thing

Cheers :D

Shihad, that would be great man - if you could check it out that would be awesome!

Actually though, there is another one in Dunedin that has just come up that I am very interested in and as I wouldn't want to run you all around town for me I would much prefer if it could be this one that you check out for me (again, assuming that it isn't out of the way!): http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 386488.htm

I have been searching for 8 months now and nothing has come available and this one could be it, so I wouldn't be mucking you around and I'm genuinely interested in it. The main points That I would want you to check out for me would be the interior condition (i.e. rips, tears, marks, stains, etc.) and on the exterior things such as; scratches, dents, stone chips, etc. - paint condition is very important for me as I am very particular, not a dick, just particular

I appreciate the offer,

Cheers,

Yeah, it is a stock 6-speed SZ-r (non-turbo). The only problem is when I said I want to get a vehicle inspection done he said he would rather have me come look at it and kept asking me who I was going to have inspect it... he hasn't replied since LOL!

So possibly the gunmetal one I will need you to check out for me, as this guy seems a little bit dodgy at the moment!

Yeah mate, he is dodgy as anything, he hasn't got back to me since I asked about a mechanical inspection.

I am still considering buying the gunmetal one though, just that SZ-r would've been too good to pass up (but also too good to be true) - so back to the original plan!

P.S. He hadn't mentioned to me that he was out of town at all, he just said that he was working until late each night and couldn't get the photos up until Friday... then he said he would take me some pics anyway and replied "his camera died" (how inconvenient)

went and saw the gun metal one today was bit of a mission.
didnt drive the car but the guy was very straight up and seemed very honest.
our camera died as soon as we tried to take a photo sorry.
is certed for engine conversion and looks like a good job
interior was mint only mods were stereo and a boost gauge which was in place of the clock and looked tasteful.
paint job was 90% mint has
finger nail scratchs on doors
a few stone chips
theres a touch up job by the fuel cap area
has had a small ding in the same area i would suggest you ask for pictures its minor thou.
has a couple of random scratchs but over all I would trust the owner to be straight up and answer any questions you ask honestly (the father was who we talked too)

Hey mate, thanks a lot for checking it out for me - appreciate the time you spent trying to locate him as well!! He sounds like a straight up guy, the issue there being the paint attention that may be needed... :/

From what you say it sounds as if it looks to be a good, tidy runner, but the paint is starting to show its age (which would be expected in a lot of cars) but then again there are still cars that also have braved through conditions and are still near immaculate, so that is the big thing for me eh.

The car sounds solid, but for the price he is asking I can't part with that much money if the paint isn't up to scratch :(

Thanks a lot for checking it out for me though, I wouldn't have been able to be certain if I didn't get that rundown, you saved me a lot of time :)

Cheers,
Shaarn
