engine warning light goes on and off

Postby Tagged » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:27 pm

Ok this is not about a toyota, its a subaru legacy wagon.

Our family went on a trip last week and drove on the open road for quite a while.
Almost every time when the rev gets high(over taking), the engine warning light goes on.

It will stay on for a couple f minutes and then goes off again.

Whats could be the problem?

Thanks

Apart from it being a Subaru?

Could be anything  take it to a Subaru mechanic and get the codes pulled (if it has them etc)

What octane petrol do you run in it and is it the twin turbo version?

This explains how to check codes.

If it is a knock sensor, I just did mine on my GTB Twin turbo last weekend, took four hours in total.

Thats the symptoms of mine.

Here was the offending part:

I had a coolant temp sensor error do exactly the same.

Under revs the light would come up.

Best to check the codes.

Access to the sensor is rather restricted with my abnormally proportioned hands
