Help needeed: GT Corolla ingnition problem

hey guys new to this forum m8 reckomended it for tryn to solve my problem,

ive just reacently brought myself a 91 corolla running the 20v silvertop engine n its started to do funnythings 1st just when it was cold the rpm needle would bounce all over the place n then die if you tryed to drive it,
but then would stop after it warmed up

took it to an auto sparkie the found a bad earth n called it a day but that havent fixed the problem..

now its worse n cant drive it @ all, the needle just keeps jumping all over the place n ya can hear it missing slightly as the needles jumping

the sparkplugs n leads have just been replaced same with the battery (all by the last owner)
ive disconnected the battery and unpluged the ecu n left it for 24h aparently this is how you reset the ecus? but hasent made a differance

i havent had much to do with toyotas, usally stick to my rotary's but need sumthing realiable to drive to work but right now seams my rotor is more realiable


has anyone else had this problem? or any ideas?
help would be greatly appricated

There might be a possibility of Capacitor problem with your ECU.

haha yea always fun,
so i should find another the ecu then? found a m8 of a m8 n swaped my coils over n that made no differance so thats that eminated

so ive replaced the ecu n that temparly fixed it n not its back to doing what it was doling on the last ecu so im guessing that my ecu was fine

could be alot of things, process of elimination really, try a different dissy could be the ign module / cam angle sensor inside that.

bad wiring, good luck in that case lots of multimetering

long shot but try unplug the guage cluster, had a honda where the tacho was interfering with the ignition and wouldnt let it rev

basically just try everything related to the ignition system

Do toyotas store fault codes?

did you try getting any fault codes out of the ecu? it should store them until power is removed. Apart from that it would seem to be some where in the ignition system. ignitor,dizzy or possibly the coil but not likely as that should not effect the rev counter.

Any one got an idea how to simply check the signal from the dizzy to the ecu and from the ecu to the ignitor? could then see if the signal stops when the car does and would help narrow it down. I would say put a scope on it but not everyone has one.

Try cleaning the AFM, i had this problem on my old silver top. But as above could be a million things.

It's a lot closer to 24 Seconds, not hours. The EFI fuse is even easier.

Every connection & connector/terminal & wire has to be checked.
Take it apart, Gently, see that they're not bent/malformed or corroded and that there is a bright shiny spot where it is making good contact.
Any metal that has been touched with fingers can corrode & loose conductivity.
