I have got some side skirts that i want to fit to my 5dr starlet but they require having a small piece cut off to allow the rear doors to open.

I dont want to use a hacksaw or jigsaw as it would be messy.

I work at a hobby shop and can get a hot wire cutter which is usually used for cutting foam. Would this work?

Any other ideas on ways to cut it?

They will eventually end up like this.

dremal tool with reinforced cutting wheel disc is generally what i use when cutting fg or plastic. sometimes hacksaw and even a angle grinder with cutting disc on it work as well.

Just use a dremel/angle grinder/hacksaw then file/sand the cut down so it's smooth.

A rotary tool is only like $20-30 from a hardware shop. Handy for other things too.

Not bad, ill stop by mitre 10 mega on my lunch break and see if they have any.

I bought a mini dremel type kit which comes with some cutting disks and about 40 other attachments.

The guy at mitre 10 suggested that i use araldyte(my spelling sucks) to hold the skirts on.

I'm a little worried about using screws or pop rivets as I'm not sure whether it would cause rust or not

ive seen cheap dremel kits at bunnings, think ive seen them for around $40

From memory it was <$40. Its called a "Mini hobby kit & engraver".

I'm planning to rivet/use stainless screws on each end where the kit tucks into the guard and some wurth bond glue stuff. Will see how it works out. Double sided tape has been suggested too.

Double sided tape? would have to be really good stuff to hold on a side skirt.

Mine has some removable bungs that i think i can screw into (hole in skirt lines up to it) im thinking to use screws there and pop rivets on the underside as well as some sort of adhesive to hold the side bit.

Hopefully that will be enough.

Holdenfan has the right idea

The screws are what hold it on, the double sided tape just holds the length of the skirt on. What do you think is used to hold plastic strips on cars from the factory :wink:
