ST215 3sgte to 6 speed RWD conversion

Postby 7ishNZ » Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:27 pm

I have been told that if you use the altezza flywheel ( or lighter aftermarket job) on the ST215 3sgte motor, it will bolt right up to the altezza 6 speed J160 using the altezza starter motor, clutch fork and release bearing, without any further mods.
Is this the gospel truth??
Thanks

I don't think it'd be that simple..... Sump would probably be an issue, and also the layout of the loom?
Also, the 3SGTE in an ST215 is on an angle, not straight up and down like a 3SGE is in an Altezza. Could cause problems, as bolting it up to the 3SGE bellhousing would sit it upright, and it might not like that.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Sump is no problem... would need chopping and baffling anyway. Loom no problem. Intake manifold for the chop as well.
It was really whether the box fits the block with the sxe-10 clutch... Engine/box combination going into a Lotus 7....nothing is simple!

You're right, it will bolt straight on and work fine. If you want mega HP there are a few mods to do to the J160 so it won't drop its guts.

I have a spare altezza sump, oilpump and pickup if you want a bolt-on sump to stand it up.

Thanks. In the lotus 7 I will need to chop the stock sump... the altezza one is too deep to fit in the 7 chassis.

Not planning to run over 300hp, car only weighs 600 kgs, so I'm hoping the box will hold up OK. What sort of mods do you recommend for the box? Thanks.
