I have been to Tonys Tyres and Beaurepaires and they are wanting $22-26 per tyre. I know what Tonys pay their employees and it can't take any longer than 15mins to fit 2 new tyres and balance them. Paying ~$50 to get 2 tyres done is really expensive.

I didn't think making a new thread was necessary.

I know they have to pay for other bits and make a profit but it seems really excessive.

Well you are awesome to deal with but sadly I'm not in Auckland. $15 is around what I would expect to pay. Might have to do more shopping around.

I have FAR less overheads than those big tyre comanies, In my old shop we HAD to charge $25 per tyre....

Its not that they are intentionally expensive, its that the business model demands it.

Well it ends up cheaper to buy tyres from you and get them fitted by them than buying the tyres from them.

I remember the days where tyre shops would often not even charge you for fitting/balancing.

get them balanced, why would you risk it for a few dollars ? unless your car is worth 100 bucks ? hehe
if your cheap though, get your mate to fit and get a shop to balance it, that would be around $5-10 for balancing a wheel/tyre i would expect.
Slicks fitting to rims thought are not always easy and depending on the slick need a lot of air to get them to bead initially.

We charge $20 for fitting and balancing at work. If tyres are purchased through us the price is usually worked into the total cost of the job (a discount is given). I always fit new valves at no real change

Ya got to remember time is spent bringing the car inside, putting it on the hoist which can be a total arse with bodykits/lowered estimas, taking the wheel off, removing the old tyre (and we get charged $2+ for disposal per tyre), fitting a new valve then tyre, inflation, balance then back onto the car. Lower down, torque each wheel up. Tyre shine. Off hoist blah blah blah....

Also, how do road race tyres stretch? I can buy some used targa tyres for near nothing but I run a lot of stretch in my front tyres, any issues there?

How can places manage to do repairs for free but cant replace them for free?

If they had a policy that you had to take the old ones surely that shouldnt be so bad?

Swapping tyres would be cheaper that doing a puncture repair, wouldnt it?

Because they have there fingers crossed it's poked and seen as your already there you will buy a replacement off them/be happy with free repair and return for future tyre needs it's just marketing

Always go to Tony's for my tyres due to the fact they fix my repairs for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :lol:

hmm let me think abouit what you are saying here , top line new tyre changer costs $15 - $30 k , top line balancer costs $10 - $ 20 k , hoists cost $5 k upwards , add rent , power , phone , advertising .
Geez your right it seems totally excessive to charge $25 :roll:

I always get second hand mags balanced before I buy them - just to make sure they're not bent or buckled (badly buckled wheels won't balance as I understand it).

You could always try it without balancing them - if it's bad then get it done. If not, then don't.

Got them done for $20 each at my local garage. Would rather give them the money than some corporate company that won't rebalance your tyre after a puncture repair. Everything is costing more so I will just live with it. :lol:
