I don't think you're over thinking things, however I think you're expecting too much of the monkeys banging the keyboards at said sites

I understand the shops being closed on ANZAC, and xmas day. But why over Easter? Are we not a country of multiple religions? Why should other religions be forced to stay home over this weekend?

I like tradtion - why do we need shops open 365 days a year. I also like to think New Zealand is still a 'christian' country regardless of whether that's viewed as a religious or cultural heritage.

Also after working in retail while I was studying; shops put massive pressure on staff to work public holidays. I think for the sake of tens of thousands of families around the country, we should leave a few holidays where the majority or families get to take time out together.

Yeah it's been a while since someone died because they couldn't shop on a certain day. Though everytime there is going to be a day closure of a supermarket etc you'd think the world is about to end with the number of people that stock up...

i can't believe how many people want to have revheads babies! 8O

pfft we don't get anything from waitangi day. it should be renamed 'new zealand day' and we should all be welcomed onto maraes across the country if we feel like we want to be apart of the celebrations and celebrations should be about how we came together and created a country that embraces different cultures.

instead of doing anything remotely patriotic/constructive to our culture, i currently see waitangi day as an oppourtunity to have a day off work and get pissed pretty much (isn't that our culture now anyways :? ) as i don't see the point of it in its current form.

/it'll never happen though.
