Who knows this AE86?

Postby AE82 FXGT » Wed May 18, 2011 7:06 pm

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/trueno/auction-374062406.htm

Anyone know any info on this? I'm maybe thinking of getting it.
I asked the owner who said they weren't part of the forum, but I was wondering on the off chance that someone else on here might know something/anything extra about it.

Also general opinions/thoughts/judgements...

Was formerly 4DRFT, owned by a member from Christchurch/Ashburton called Voodoo

Sold on to a guy in Timaru, Rego Lapsed at some stage & made it's way up north. Has since been re-vinned.

I have some photos of it from years back, prior to the panda paint job, which was done late 2004/2005 I think. Was running a supercharged 4agze at that time.

In my opinion price is a joke, he would be lucky to sell at half that amount

1 - but it's an AE86..... !!!!!!!!!

2 - only has a GT28 off a GTiR... probably dynoed at a real dyno not tricky tune or whatever.

3 - what he really means if he can rip you off ie: swap a modern car for an AE86, then he will

4 - I thought they're all the rage?

he said it's his pride and joy ae85/ae86, so it's not a geniune ae86? It's about $12k too much then imo.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

I'm sure I saw that car in Palmy... and I'm sure there was a small toyspeed sticker on it somewhere. Possibly an ex-member's car/car's ex-member?

yep price is lala land stuff. its obviously had some money spent, but as we all know you dont get to add that straight onto the selling price. most of the turbo ones i've seen going across trademe seem to struggle to reach more than around 8ish for really nice ones.

from reading the auction its not an 86 shell. but whatever, thats all wank factor on modified examples anyway.

Agreed. I've got 180kW with nothing more than a VF38 and aftermarket cam gears, the rest is bog standard.

1- i brought my minta stock 86 for $3500 2 years ago, sold it for 7 with a few mods

2- im getting 170rwkw with a shitbox ht18/t3 turbo and a v5 link

3- prob a fair call

4- minilites suck balls unless on minis, escorts, anglias etc etc. 13s on a 86 = gaylord

The car you're thinking of came into work a couple months back (I take it you saw it a few months ago?). Workmate that went out to it doesn't recall seeing a turbo.

pretty much same as above.

Sold my mint genuine 86 silver top turbo 225kw for 12g not to long ago, thats all it was worth unfortunately.

There are no Ae86 on TM that I would pay money for at the moment. I suggest save and wait for a real mint one to come up, then paying 17g for one might be worth it.

180kw does seem lowish

Also you gotta bare in mind what 17k buys you these days.

I mean I know AE86's are awesome, I have been in VERY highly modded NA one once, loved it, but 17k gets you a nicely moddy FL S14 or a tidy S15

Or a nice late model 180sx.

Not saying that you can compare old and new but you can compare the VALUE from a car with a similar RWD turbo platform

Yeah,

I emailed him and made sure he knew that cash would be coming my way (I was thinking a fair whack too, as I asked him if he was interested in my 03 RX8, see sig, its done 68xxxkm).

But he said that he doesn't have much in the way of cash to put on top of the car so I don't think I will be pursuing this any further.

Thanks for all the opinions and stuff, I knew that was a bit much $$, I'm specifically after and AE86, just thought it would be cool, I'm just after something still good but use less gas than an RX (which shouldn't be hard).

I think that is a good choice, from time to time AMAZING AE86's pop up on Trade me and for that sort of car I would suggest waiting for one that has clearly been done properly
