Shipping a CAr to australia - reccomended companies ?

Anyone had dealings with shipping a car to australia. need some good advice here on companies that are well known or reputable

A guy I sell parts to in Australia took his AE111 with him when he went back, I could find out who he used?

do you just want it shipped over or complied as well?

Is it a competition vehicle? or planning on registering it for road use?

I send cars across on a weekly basis for work(work in freight). You need permission form the AU government before you doing anything if your planning on registering it.

Ive got all the forms PM me and I can email them to you if your keen.

whats the deal with getting a car on the road over there or even getting it for track use? what is the ballpark figure for shipping/import tax etc?


there seems to be a lot more jobs in aussie but the only way i would go is if i could take my car with me pretty much.

The freight isnt the expensive part its the AQIS( aust MAF) inspection costs & compliance... they all add up quickly

For track use its a little different, compliance wise etc. Costs.. ball park would be $2500-$3200 NZ

gt4dude: And id love to leave it here , but im pretty sure i wouldnt get the dollar figure id want to replace it with something similar in australia .. ive put alot of hard work into her getting it to where it is now , and id really like to see it finished off properly.

its a split decision on what to do.

Well I heard when you add up all the compliance costs and taxes, you spend about the same money to buy a local model,

There was a Kiwi on 6GC who moved a GT4 over to aussie, he stopped posting for a while and then resurfaced a couple years later, and was saying it still wasn't on the road yet.

There's a reason why Australia still has a local car industry (and we don't). They load costs on, to make buying local product more attractive than buying a grey import.

Thus, all our cheap Jap imports cost lots more in Aussie than here.

So, it's the same thing importing your car from here, to there. Lots of $ required to take your car that way.

Not quite, most of the costs do not apply if you are importing your own car you have owned over here and are taking it over for your own use.

I looked at going to Oz instead of Welly and priced up taking my 101 Levin over. Was going to be about 4-6k all up on the road incl shipping.
At a time they were selling for 12-14k over there.

You need to contact the rego agency of the state you are looking at moving to. Find out what would be required to get it complied as each state is different.
Being a model that was sold in Oz makes it a lot simpler.

Couldn't you get into Aussie? :lol: I thought that a deviant like you who likes Hillman Imps would fit in nicely .... :twisted:

As a random comment, you can bring in a car from overseas and use it here for 12 months on your foreign plates and registration etc. Wonder if you could do the same in Aussie for a year (assuming you got a well paid contract, and were *really* determined to have your own car there).

At the time I knew a girl working for a logistics company in Brisbane, she sent me all the stuff 8)

Hard part is working out what laws apply to you and your car. From what I recall it was simple if you were bringing in a car that was the same model or similar to one already in Oz. If it was different, you have to prove lots more crash safety stuff.

its worth keeping in mind there are soem ridiculous modification laws over here in aussie, so chances are you would have to take your car back to stock to get it complied. eg touge, your car would have no chance as it is
