Insurance help

Postby RS13 » Fri May 27, 2011 9:26 pm

Hi guys,

My partner just bought her first car, however calling around the big insurance companies nobody is willing to insure her (even just third party) given the quake, living in Christchurch etc.. just wondering if anyone knew of any smaller companies who could help?

Cheers,

James.

i just bought a house 5 weeks ago and got insurance?

i find it hard to believe no one will insure a car....
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

Perhaps, although I doubt it, they gave the quake as an excuse.

Its' only a 92 Pulsar, 1500 carbie auto. She has her learners and only really wants third party, preferably with a fire/theft clause.. maybe moderate risk? AMI suggested we put the car into joint ownership and insurance, that way I can tag it onto my current policy I have with AMI, but tbh I'd rather not do that!

It may have something to do with her being on a learners as well.

Have you tried NAC at a push???

Or try going though her bank. I did that with my first car, which was turbo and got full cover no issues (although it was over a decade ago that I did that) so things may have changed.

I'd say its because shes on her learners. Insure the car in your name and allocate her as a driver should work.

I think he is trying to avoid having her linked to his policies, which is fair enough.

This. Lol! She has had her learners for years, very few lessons so still some time away I think.

If she is on her learners she can't drive without a supervisor in the car anyway so why the hell did she buy a car? That indicates high risk so no insurer will touch her. Tell her to at least get her restricted and then try again.

Steady on there fella, she is only getting her own car as she wants an auto and mine is manual. I'm going to be using it as a daily, and teaching her to drive in it.. she isn't the type to drive around on her learners uninsured anyway.

Try going through her bank, my missus had the same trouble on her learners ect, went to her bank and got 3rd party, but had to wait a couple of months before she could get fire and theft, unsure why? Btw she is with ANZ, maybe different if with different bank
