Non-blood-sucking garages in Christchurch

Postby Tagged » Fri Jul 15, 2011 7:17 pm

From my experience, a few kinda of garage exist in this world;

1. low cost, low quality:
they just want to finish whatever is in hand for as cheap/quick as possible and get on with the next customer

2. low cost, reasonable quality:
they try to sell you whatever they can and tell you every single aspect of your car has fault and needs repair in order to gain more profit

3. reasonable cost, reasonable quality:
typical company, you wouldn't expect anything more or less

4. reasonable cost, good quality:
hard to find...these people usually have the passion for what they do and not just take it as a job. Offer good advise and guide lines

5. high cost, good quality:
west coast customs

so, since im doing some major repairs on my levin these days, I was wondering if anyone would know any type 4. garages around Christchurch.....since most of the places I've been to are either 1. or 2......and thats rather annoying....

thanks guys

Might want to say what repairs you're talking about. Some can be done 'DIY' pretty easy, some not so much. But if you're not keen on doing it yourself (with guidance) then that's fair enough too. But yeah, what jobs exactly?

at the moment the rear struts are being replaced. a rather unfortunate even really.....

took the car the the garage this morning, scheduled to pick up at 2pm. Went there at two and saw my car still being held up high with both rear wheels off...

the dude told me that the top strut mounts were screwed and there was no way they could put the struts on before they can source a new pair, which cost 175 each...I pretty much had no option and neither does he. so now its scheduled to be picked up at 5pm.

went there at 5 and wat I see was exactly the same and I was told the wrong mounts were sent to him....now hes in deep shit coz my car is stuck on top of his machine before the right mounts can arrive on Monday and while waiting for the mounts all work is stalled.....

Also the brake disks may require replacing as well.....its a 180K car so most wear and tear items are due replacing....

Top mounts were screwed? Ask to keep the old parts as i'd be keen to see what is wrong with them... Not much to go wrong with them from what I recall from ripping mine out last year.

yep the tread on both mounts where the shock is supposed to screw in are gone. not sure how though.

Im guessing this is also whats causing the knocking noises that no body were able to find what was wrong until now :P

make sure you get the worn out/ damaged parts back to have a look at

post up pics of them on here too if you're unsure wether youve been ripped off

also you may not have to replace brake discs, could probably get away with havign them machined flat again... might be cheaper, my trueno as done over 200km and the discs still have plenty of meat on them
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

haha thanks guys for the advise! im pretty sure this time the last thing they want would be having my car occupying one of their two lifts from this morning till Monday noon LOL.

because since they cant put the shocks in, theres no way they can move my car at all and all my car is doing atm is stalling one of their two working stations....bad luck for them I guess....

oh and they have showed me the mounts so its all good :)

I guess that if the tophat nuts weren't done up tight that could stuff the threads / cause knocking. So pretty sounds legit going by what you have said.
