rebuilding silvertop 4age

Postby badassmofo » Wed Oct 15, 2003 2:32 pm

Hey
I've just got a Silvertop 4age in my possession, and am going to be rebuilding it over the next 6-8 months or so, it will be a process, but Im looking forward to it.
I'm wanting to know who makes forged 4age internals, as I dont think the standard ones will last too long. Is there anyone who will do a decent price as I dont really want to be going to TRD to buy some.
Also, what head work would anyone recommend that I do to it while it's off?
Yes.

my mate has just rebuilt his silvertop, he hasnt used any forged internals at all, as long as the car is tuned and wont run lean or detonate, genuin toyota parts should be fine.

he is using arp rodbolts tho.

I realise that, but Im looking to attach a large turbo to it, or something interesting...
Does anyone know where I can get forged internals? and Decompression gaskets?
Yes.

Wouldn't the easiest thing be to get some GT-Z internals?

hhmm, silvertop crank supposed to be the same as a gtz, rods im not sure but the pistions wouldnt have the 5 valve cutouts, for proper forgies 4 it you would be looking at a grand up im guessing, ive never seen the price for them

You might want to talk to MisterTwo. He's just rebuilt a 20 valve and made a custom turbo installation. I personally think the engine is much better off being left NA, but it's horses for courses I guess. Its easier and less expensive to convert a ZE to turbo.

IF your talking about the blacktop manual....

I've never seen a silvertop manual online. This blacktop manual was stolen from a SA copy.

Thanks heaps!
I'd say the blacktop wouldnt be that much different to the silvertop workshop manual wise? oh well, only one way to find out...
But if anyone can find the silvertop one, I'd be stoked!
Yes.

i reckon that you should spend the money (unless you have lots and lots of it) on a computer.
silvertop will (imho) be good for ~15psi on the stock bottom end with appropriate fueling.

now i know what i do, this would probably what i would have done first... ;) then spend the money on the rebuild.

I've actually decided that I might stay N/A... Toda Forged pistons look expensive, but could be a good option, probably do all the valves etc, try and make the N/A 20v as extreme as possible...

drum roll... and the answer is...

Dumb toyota, they hava a japaneese manual at head office BUT they will only translate parts of the book as required, and they wont supply the whole manual (or a copy!)...

SOOOO we need someone who works at toyota head office!!!!

I have the setting for the shims and timing as a datasheet from toyota thus far...

The other option is to find someone in Japan to get one for us.. As they would be able to get it from "the local toyota shop"... where as in NZ they have f'all info!...

really boils my nuts, that none of the toyota agents know ne thing about the engine yet are unwilling to find out!

Hey Neil, can you mail me that info please. I thinks its about time the shims got looked at in the FX, they can be a little noisy at times but I've noticed a lot of silvertops are...
