The never dying knocking suspension

Yes I know some of you might have seen similar topics for at least a thousand times...lol but here it is again

Heres the situation; (rear non-superstrut suspensions on a Levin BZR)

Before:
Lowering aftermarket springs + old stock shocks + stuffed up top mounts = non-stop knocking and rocking with passengers at the back

After:
Same set of lowering springs + brand new TGP shocks + brand new top mounts = occasional knocking and ricking while going over unsmooth roads with passengers at the back

So what could the problem be?? Everything that seems wrong are replaced but there are still some noise. And the noises sounded exactly the same so it should be the same thing only something has improved a little.

What do you guys think??

hmmm no I actually never thought about them!
Although I was told once that it could be the shocks bottoming out becoz of the lowering springs....could that be a possibility?

Hitting the bump stops perhaps. how much lower than stock are your springs ?

Do you know the spring rates of the new springs ?

Could be killing your OEM shocks.

Check the sway bar bushes as said, I'd have been looking at those before struts

A good way to check your sway bar links is to drive at ~20-30kmh, and shake your steering back and forth to transfer the weight to each side quickly, and listen for the noise. Or jack the car up and feel the links for play

i had your problem in my AE111

i replaced all of the rear suspension bushes

never heard a knock from the rear ever again

hmm....id imagine if it was the bump stops it would make a more dull kinda sound, since its hard rubber right? The noise im getting sounds more like metal again metal.

And no I don't really know anything about those springs as they came with the car when I bought it. All I know is that they are green tein lowering springs.

um...the only bushes that I know of are the two on top of the shock, and now knowing there are bushes for the sway bar. Are there any more "rear suspension bushes"?

oh and the two on top of the shocks have been replaced

There will be about 6 bushes/joints per side that can get play in them as well as the 2 sway bar bushes and 4 joints on the sway bar links

There is a joint in the end of each of those paired arms which you can feel play in the wheel when the car is up. The other arm is a rubber bush and usually has play, but not play that will cause noise. The joint in the hub usually doesn't give trouble either. The swaybar bushes wear out and knock, and the other joint at either end of the sway bar link can wear and give knocking noises also.

So start with seeing if the swaybar mount bushes have play, and check the swaybar link arms

My wagon was clunking like a mofo recently, replaced some bushes to no avail. Had it up on the hoist yet again with three people heaving on suspension components to find what was up.

Turns out it was the rear susp arm nuts, they were "less than tight". On that Toyo DIY page they are part numbers 48730G and 48730H

Yep another for swaybar bushes and end links. If they are worn it will sound like you have bunch of marble sin the boot :lol:

the marbles in the boot and empty trailer both sounds REALLY similar to what im getting!! I'll definitely check them out!!
