Where to buy safety equipment?

I have recently joined a racing series called ACES+ and I need to get fireproof overalls, a fire extinguisher and a harness.
Where can I go in Auckland to get all/most of these?

Alternatively you can get fireproof overalls from NZ Safety (same as a welder uses), probably a fire extinguisher as well or an extinguisher from Ripco/Supercheap but make sure it has a metal bracket.

sounds like a cool series. very similar to a couple of series run down here at manfeild.

from experience best place is probably trademe tbh there are a number of stores to cater for race suits etc. although it may pay to visit a racing supplies store to get sizing etc. or alternatively find a friend with similar body sizing etc and try their gear on.

you really only NEED overalls and a helmet. although extra safety gear is up to the individual which is of course recommended.

be prepared for some $$ though safety is definitely not an area you want to skimp on.

Repco and Supercheap do indeed carry the right extinguishers, in fact often the exact same extinguishers as the race shops carry, but at half the price.

Metal overcentre bracket(s) are the thing to look for. So if you see plastic, run away.

Trademe? I don't really want to skimp out out safety equipment that may have to save my life.
I'll drop in to repco on the way to work one day and grab an extinguisher.

You can buy anything off trademe, even good brands Talking in general here. But yeah I'd probaby get overalls from a shop so you know they fit perfect.

Do buy an FIA approved harness, as they are good for up to 10 years use.

Your other options are SFI 16.1 harness', and they are only valid for 2 years use in any competition events. There's the "E" mark belts which have the waist and shoulder straps connected together, but they are only in a 2 inch (which many people including myself find uncomfortable on the shoulders), and also they have a conventional road car type selt belt clip on them, and when you're upside down and hanging from the straps are almost impossible to undo. That being something you don't want if you're upside down in a car, and really want to get the hell out of the car.

Cheaper suits are heavier, hotter and tend to restrict movement. I wear a profoxracing.com suit for winter events in shyte in the offroader and have a beautiful alpinestars suit for short course/rally. The Alpinestars gives you more movement than standard clothers, the foxproracing feels like a welding jacket.
Spend your money wisely on an end of line or a last years color set. You'll be amazed at what you can pickup given a bit of browsing and time.

Get some fireproof socks and gloves while you are at it.

However quite likely yes. Unless it is a Silvester belt, in which case I'd avoid it, as I've seen four of those belts wear very poorly when used a lot (the adjuster on the shoulder straps abraded the belt very badly).
