Nothing against you personally, but I hope thats the case.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

although sometimes stupid parents dont help - one of mum and dads neighbours loved to have money and loved to show everyone he had money - bought his kid a souped up Legacy B4 for his restricted

said neighbour couldnt understand how his kid managed to write it off a week later >_>

hell even i was a retard when i had my restricted - and i broke a cheap car - even ill say that the driving age is too young D:

i hope that they have changed the laws to be at least 18... make it 20 imo

same reason as above... lack of maturity. at 16 i dont think you can really comprehend the risk that driving can be and take responsibility for the consequences if you do f*** up and kill someone.
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

Hey, I had my current Supra on my restricted (aged 17) and my first red TT MKIV also just off my learner's (aged 16)... but everyone knows I'm a Nana, so apart from almost spinning out at 15km/h at a roundabout a week after getting my red TT, I'm generally too cautious to get into trouble... if I get pulled over, it's going to be for going too slow!

I agree that it's a good thing, and could possibly be good to see it go higher.

I think what you miss out on though is all the valuable lessons you learn from being an idiot when you're 15 and behind the wheel of a car. I reckon it could still be good to allow people to begin supervised driving at 15, but with no chance of gaining freedom until you're 17 or 18. And your supervisor should have to sit a test to be allowed to supervise too!

yeah, they have changed them, my neice just managed to get her learners before the age went up.

http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/photo/g ... nging.html

now 17.5 years is minimum age to get full if you have done defensive driving, 18 otherwise.

Hard hard, 18 to get Learners imo. Too many dimebags on the road these days who look 15/16, and yes, lack of maturity. No offense to the thread starter!

No more new licenses IMO.

TBH though I get more problems with older drivers than young ones. But that's an discussion for another day. Age is only part of the equation.

I don't think this will solve a thing. It starts way before they get behind the wheel. People are just getting more and more stupid as time goes on. Idiocracy (the movie) continues to prove it's correct. Everytime I go out in my car / van I see someone run a red light and / or completely fail to indicate. Will increasing the age fix this? No.

Fail once again.

If something is part of an equation, then it contributes to a solution :P

Lack of maturity spreads across all ages, but occurs more frequently at younger ages.

Here's an equation:
x + 8y = 4(1 + 2y)

y is part of the equation but it doesn't contribute to the solution :P
