Got my 17 year old son a car today for his birthday.....

Postby kiwi4agze » Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:09 pm

I asked him what did he want for his birthday, he said a WRX, i laughed as i knew he does not like to stick things in his bum, maybe its a gay phase he is going through but I will never buy Subaru..

I said I was not going to get him a car and that was that, but I was and had thought about it for a while now.

I found this one and thought it would be perfect, so contacted the dealer and put a deposit on it pending a wof and aa inspection.

Lucky boy(/troll?)

Not what I would buy with that kind of coin, but all the same.

I got him that cause
1) i like them
and
2) i will drive it a lot more then he will
and bigger reason
3) can justify it to the wife!!!!

it was not any more expensive then a similar Camry

Parts are about the same as honda/toyota as it shares a lot in common with the rover

it was $12995 got it for $12,000.. so not a lot really

Meant to be quicker than a stock WRX or something.... Oh and that 190 = 190kw v6

Free car or not I think i'd take the bus :P Sounds more like you got a car for yourself rather than for your son.

I think my sons first car was earlyish 80s fairlady z with V6 and turbo.
He only got it because I did a deal with a mate who owned it and wanted rid of it.
That would be worth lots now. Pity it got pretty much trashed straight away. But you get that.

You all suck monkey balls.....

Just cause its not a main stream car doesn't make it any less of a car. It has a 190kw V6, its a manual and has 4 doors, its a good car.

You all are car racists..... i hope you all are as disappointed in yourself as I am in you.

Racism is not right, just think about what you are doing to this car and think what if someone did this to my car would it hurt its feelings?

Plus its better then any Camry!!!!

how much driving time has he had?

unless he's got alot of motorsport experience (really knows hows to drive), 190kw + 17yr old = recipe for disaster.

Besides what car you chose for him, I and probably others are a little jealose that you bought one for him where most of us had to work hard to get our first car/s. In that aspect we probably looked after them much better as it was our own money that we spent, and we knew that if we broke it we had to pay to fix it also, we couldnt just run to daddy and get him to pay for that also. Or just not worry about fixing it and leave it sitting there broke as it wasnt our investment tied up.

On another line, havent you seen all the media of kids that were given (cos they sure as hell couldnt afford to buy) powerful cars at a young age that wrapped them round trees etc? Theres been a few.

My kid certainly wont be GIFTED his first car, nor will it be anything powerful untill he has a few years of driving experience behind him. Call me an old fuddy duddy if you like, but I love my kid, and I want him to live a long and prosperous life so I wont be giving him any tools to help shorten his life.

Im pulling the irresponcible parent card out on you here.

He learnt to drive in my wifes 206GTi 180 and has driven the xr5 a lot of times.

Damn now i feel bad........ i didnt think about the whole responsible parenting thing.

I was going to get him a land rover defender, but my wife said NO.. i went through the land rover phase and she doesnt want a relapse.

The issue i have with buying him a cheap first car is that when he wants to modifiy it he will, with this car there is NO performance parts for it.. plus he can use this car for the next 10 years no issue, but with a 1980's nissan opulsar or simular it maybe has 2 years life in it?
